Are you an organ donor?

I don't know if other countries have a similar program going on, but here in Canada, you can sign up to donate your organs in the event of a car crash or other fatal injury. A form is given to you here once you pass your G road test I think.

Anyway, did you sign up to donate, or would you sign up?

I signed up, or I would sign up. 51
I'm not signed up. 30

  • It shouldn't even be a choice. It should be yes for everyone. You're dead, your body will rot away or be cremated, might as well save a life.

Hell no!!! I don't trust doctors they asked about that shit when my Grandma was still alive but hooked on machines. I know a guy who was a pilot and in a serious plane crash and when he was hooked on machines the doctors asked and encouraged his family to take him off life support so they could harvest his organs. Well thank God his family said no and kept him on the machines because he woke up and had a full recovery! So I intend to donate my sphincter after I'm fully dead and I encourage them to boil it up in a stew and enjoy!!!

They're planning on the old switcheroo here. You will be, by default, an organ donor unless you specifically carry a card saying that you are not willing to share your organs after you die.

Personally, I'd make the card take the form of a tattoo. Worn on the forehead.

I was given the option when I got ID. I wanted to say yes but I was afraid that if I get in an accident they would just let me die. So I did not put it. However I might add it to my will.

          1. The organ has to match the body being transplanted to.

          2. And far more importantly, they don't switch hearts between two living patients. Hearts are transplanted from recently deceased donors. If the heart from the person needing the donor organ was able to function, it wouldn't need to be replaced.

          3. Why am I feeding a known troll? Fuck.

Organ donor is what you put on your ID. So in case you die you say "yes, you may take my organs".

When you are a organ donor you are giving away your organs. It is not switching. If someone has a cancer heart and switches hearts to person without cancer heart you would be giving one person cancer organs.

So that idea would not work out anyways. You can give away organs when you are living. However its usually something you have multiples of or something that you can get rid of and live without. An example of this is a kidney. Since you have two kidneys.

No. Because I've been told by several people who are either EMTs or nurses that being an organ donor means that if you're in critical condition and they can do something to save you they generally don't. Their reasoning being that you're already on deaths doorstep so why bother pulling you back away before he can answer.

Really? Because they take an oath to help people. They don't try any less hard to help people because they have healthy organs that could save other people.

On another note - several EMTs an nurses talked to you about this? On separate occasions? When these types of opinions could lose them their careers? Doubtful.

I was having a conversation with my sister and several of her friends all of whom are nurses about my lisence and wether I should be an organ donor and they all vehemently agreed that I should not for the above mentioned reason. They explained that its well known in the medical community that EMTs and nurses put more effort into non-organ donors care than that of an organ donors in the case of an emergency where a member of both groups is represented. It's triage and organ donors are lower down on the town pole when it comes to triage. The only so called risk to the careers would be if they were overheard by their superiors which is highly unlikely seeing as we weren't in the hospital or if someone decided to report them for their opinion an even then their superiors would more than likely be of the same mind.

Monty Python terrified me as a kid about Organ Donation. See the skit on organ donation from the Meaning of Life if you dare.

No, although I didn't realise I was old enough to until I researched it just now. I don't have a use for my organs once I'm dead and I'd like to think my death will be of some use to someone else :) I'll definitely get an organ donor card.
