No, but it's not something I'd do if I couldn't conceive.

I would much rather adopt or foster. I don't see the point in pouring so much money into something that may or may not work, and would involve pumping me full of drugs.

On the other hand, I have no problem with other people doing it, if it's so important to them to have their own biological child.

I would like to see explanations from people who are against it.

I believe there are two main things people have against it. Firstly, that some people feel it is wrong to go to such an effort to create a new child, rather than adopt a child who is an orphan, thus giving a home to a child that would, otherwise, have none. Secondly, the fact that embryos are created and then many will be discarded as medical waste.

Are you against it? I can imagine reasons why people are against it and I have spoken with evangelicals who say why they're against it (despite their absolute lack of education in biology), I'm more interested in hearing it from the horses' mouths.

No, I'm not, as stated in my first comment. I'm giving reasons that I have heard. The second reason I stated was the stance taken by the church I was involved in when I used to be a Christian.

I didn't take the time to see whether you'd posted earlier. I guess I'm still waiting for a reason that isn't either a matter of resources (time/money invested) or a matter of attaching some sort of spiritual/religious value to the embryo.

I don't buy the "adopt an existing child" reasoning because that applies to conventional conception as well.

Also, I would be curious as to whether those who are against it are against it on a personal level or both a personal and legal level.

The "adopt an existing child" does apply to conventional conception - only if you're able to conceive without IVF, then it's pretty easy to do, so why would you necessarily try to adopt? Whereas, IVF is a long and expensive thing, with a lot of emotional wringing, and you're not guaranteed a child at the end, so adopting (though also expensive and emotionally exhausting, and no guarantee of ending up with a child) is, for some, the more 'right' solution.

Without it, I wouldn't have my wonderful cousin :)

I've already answered this, but no. I'm not against it.
Ideally, one would say "adopt!" But not all couples are able to love someone else's children the way they could love their own. It's not something that can be helped.

No I don't think people should have this. We have so much over population so its so impossible to have a child I think you should just adopt.

No one wants to adopt children since they say they have problems. The reason they have issues is because no one wants them! They dont have a proper parents to take care of them. Ignoring the issue is not fixing it and honestly we don't need more kids.

When most of the world even supposedly rich countries are overpopulated we have a problem. For people like gay couples who physically can not produce a child with each other I think they should just adopt.

We have so many children in the orphanages that no one seems to want. Its really sad to think about. It also creates issues when they put too many eggs like octo mom and half of them come out retarded.

Now nothing against retarded children but when you are having that many its probobly something saying you should not be having that many AT ONE TIME. Yes some women have had many at one time but it was natural it was not forced. I think some women are just meant to only have so many children at one time.

        Me too.
I'd buy a better one (i.e. a more expensive one) but I am so bad with my stuff, it'd be broken within two months, like my Kyocera.
        RIP Kyocera.

Some people really want their own children and are willing to do whatever it takes.
Sure, it's not the natural way, but they deserve the opportunity to have children too.
It must surely cost a lot of money, but if they're willing to pay for it, it just goes to show how desperate they are.
