I used to social smoke when socialising with friends. However I decided to ditch the cigs when I realised my part time smoker job was turning to full time.

Also my son entered the world and I rather spend my money on him :)

I smoked for the first time this year and hated it! I don't understand how anyone can become addicted! However, although it's been about 4 months I will grab a cigarette from time to time to ease the stress, but the taste and smell is digusting.

But I find it sexy as hell when guys smoke! ;)

Yes, and no. I used to smoke twenty a day. Now it's usually none a day. But I still have an emotional connection that hasn't been broken yet. I don't feel like a non-smoker yet and I do occasionally still have one. I guess it'll be like caffeine. I just phased it out and now I only touch it in very rare circumstances.

Yes, but only heavily (say a pack a day), oh and only for 30years now. Actually I'm lighting up one as I type here.

Its actually interesting to see that the majority (so far) here don't. Obviously the education and commercials worked, plus the non sponsorship of tobacco companies at sporting events.

    Anyhow... Have a Winfield
    Oh that norsca taste
Come to Marlboro Country. Come to where the flavor is
More Doctors Smoke Camels than any other Cigarette
If you smoke, please smoke Carlton
You're never alone with a Strand

These slogans and more; plus the fact it was cool to smoke, made it easy to start.
Strangely I even bought an electronic cigarette (to help kick the habit) But they don't actually feel like a smoke, too heavy and hard plastic (like having a heavy pen in your mouth) It didn't work! Plus it (one item) cost the same as a packet of smokes!

Non smokers don't understand smokers anymore. It has seriously gone too far, you can't smoke anywhere anymore. Its annoying!

    Oh, I voted Yes :p
And even at the end of writing this its still halfway, win win.

Smoking has affected me this much

Ohhh man, I went to an outdoor festival and this rabid anti-smoking guy who worked there caught sight of me, chased me down and made me put my cigarette out!! The damn signs said 'No Smoking in Tents', I wasn't in or near a tent!! Then he goes over to his loudspeaker thingy and shouts out 'NO SMOKING HERE' blah, blah, blah, what a little prick!! The hallway monitor from hell, he was. The indoor laws, I can see but don't necessarily agree with 100%, but now that they banned smoking from every indoor space they're attacking the outdoor space which is really absurd!!

There's lots of stuff I just quit doing because of the anti-smoking laws. Oh...and the fucking state I live in wants to be over-the-top greedy with their cigarette taxes, so I buy them from different states-they hate that!! They cost right about $11 a pack here but 60 miles away I can get them for $5 so....

The stupidest thing ever I think is that you CAN smoke here in the tobacco shops. Customers and employees alike. How does that make sense though?? Not every customer is necessarily a smoker, neither is every employee. I don't get that at all. I thought the aim of the anti-smoking laws was to protect the health of customers and employees. I don't see how it can be legal in there but not in a bar.

        Agreed.

I've got one on those Nut job stories as well.

Pretty sure is was the zoo (could have been some theme park, but whatever)
Anyway I lit up a smoke (OUTSIDE), and some woman goes ballistic on me, dragging her child behind her.
She screams out, YOU CAN'T SMOKE HERE.
OMG! Thankfully it was a beautiful day, so the place was TOTALLY PACKED WITH PEOPLE, all looking at me in disgust.
How dare I give them passive smoking cancer, out there in the middle of the day with the wind blowing!

Stupid bitch, what does she think? She's going to breath it in (the tiny percent of fumes) and die on the spot?
I've been doing it for 30years and actually smoking the cigarette itself! I must be god! or superman!

Yes yes I KNOW its disgusting habit and bad. But seriously I hope this woman never goes to the city or has an open fire place, or has to actually go near a road! God forbid. BAN people I say, they annoy the shit out of me!

I totally agree with both of your post.
Another story from my previous job:
-My colleague (smoker) used to sit in the same office with a woman co-worker (non-smoker), in fact they were teachers so they could meet each other only during the breaks, not all day long. Smoking was banned in the building of course, but I (smoker) used to go out with him to have a cigarette a few times a day. Now: this non-smoking woman seriously asked him not to smoke even outside because she could smell cigarretes from his clothes and felt that her rights were violated. She meant it seiously, not as teasing or joke. It was a nice story and I gladly remember it even now, probably 10 years after it happened.
-By the way, I am a smoker and subscribe under your slogan "Ban people":)))

I don't smoke and I don't think that smoking is a bad or disgusting habit. Anyone is free to do whatever they want with themselves. But I can understand the lady if the wind was blowing the smoke right in her face, this annoys the shit out of me as I don't like the smell of it.
But if you weren't even close to her and didn't blow your smoke in her face, I don't understand her reaction. I have to agree that I dislike it when I see people ganging on someone for a choice of life they've made.
Smoking shouldn't be discriminated against, but I'm glad I don't have to put up with smoke blurring my vision and preventing me from smelling my food when I'm at a restaurant though.
Anyway, usually nothing's more clueless and stupid than an angry mob of people.

I'm a smoker, and there's not a single moment in my day that I don't regret choosing this path. I've cut down my cigarette intake and I hope I can eliminate this horrid habit. It's affecting both my health and my wallet. :P

I think smoking is too costy for what it does.
But I think anyone should be free to do whatever he wants with himself, so smoke if you want to, just remember not to peer-presure others into doing it and do not fall to peer-presure yourself. Think for yourself and do whatever you want.

I always thought I would never smoke. Then I only started smoking when I was drunk. Then it happened more when I was sober. But now I have cut down a lot. I have very few when sober but still smoke when I drink.
