IRL I am more careful with choosing which opinions I should and shouldn't share. People get upset so easily...

Personally, I love hearing other people's views and stories of the world. My Mother was a liberal and my Dad was a Conservative and I grew up knowing that there are two sides to every story. My parents often involved me in their debates and it was always necessary that I listen to both arguments before I make a judgement. I'm always willing to accept that I might be wrong and if I feel that the person that I am speaking to is not going to be reasonable with me, I am more likely to back off sooner IRL, or not even pursue it at all.

I'm cool with people having different views, but it seems that when I express mine (tell them that I am a Mormon, that I enjoy study of this or that or vote for this) people become so defensive. Especially many of the people that preach "tolerance", but it doesn't apply when faced with an opinion they directly disegree with, u kno? It gets to a point where I am aware that they are not actually curious and wanting for answers but they are just trying to fluster me and I don't care for people like that because I don't do that to others (except for my Mother in law) and don't understand why they would do that to me.

So IRL I'm tempted to beat the fuck out of them. It's a purely physical impulse that years of practice has given me the tools to control but the temptation makes me feel bad. I grew up in a violent household and we beat the fuck out of eachother whenever there was a disagreement. So to avoid the temptation, I make sure I try to be as discrete with my beliefs and opinions as possible.

Well considering some of the things Mormons hold dear as beliefs, I'd pretty much expect a severe backlash!! Garden of Eden in Missouri?? Native Americans being turned from white to 'red' as a punishment from God? And the like....pretty questionable, pretty primitive and 'scary' (to a more primitive people) and pretty offensive.

And before you say anything to defend those points....why be a Mormon if those are among the main beliefs, why not just be a plain Christian? That's not even to mention how poorly written and ignorant (overall) the books of Mormon are. Stevie Wonder could see how poorly the Book of Mormon is written vs the Bible.

And this is coming from a completely non-religious person.

"why be a Mormon if those are among the main beliefs, why not just be a plain Christian?"

You're going to have to bear with me here.

I've been to MANY Christian churches, and so far, the Mormon church has been the most tolerant towards my ideology and philosophical interpretations of the Christian religions. Darned near every church I went to had an issue with me openly speaking about anything that wasn't "the Scripture". I enjoy studying and appreciating the symbolism and metaphorical content of the Bible and applying concepts from Eastern religions to Christianity and the Mormon church has been the only church that I could do this in so openly without... well... getting shit for it.

I really enjoy Christianity, I do, but I also enjoy applying Eastern religious concepts to it and the Mormon church has, so far, been the only church that would allow me to do that without much of a problem. There are some boundaries to that, as with every Christian church, but I'm not the only Mormon that is Progressive in this manner. Furthermore, I am extremely intrigued by the idea that prayer can bring revelation if you're doing it for the right reasons, which is a concept that is stressed very highly in our church.

The Mormon church is much more dedicated to their beliefs than most of the churches that I have been to, other than the Catholic church but uhh... I don't care much for the Catholic church for my own reasons. That and the Mormon church is like a Wal-Mart. It's the same wherever you go, just different people and different size. I like that, it takes the confusion out of going to church in a different town and worrying about what their individual worship style is going to be like.

These all sound like stupid reasons and I'm sure you'll agree with me. I used to be very prejudiced against the Mormon church but I was quite shocked to find that they didn't give me a load of BS for my religious outlook. Now my political outlook I will not discuss with them, just as I try not to discuss it at any church. Granted, there are more liberals in that church than I previously thought...

Depends... I'm equally nice to people that I like or who want my advice, but if I'm debating viewpoints, it depends if someone is trolling.

In real life, people don't troll. I've met assholes, but nothing comes CLOSE to the sort of comments you see the cowards putting online. Nobody IRL has dropped the "N" word, been as blatantly sexist, etc. etc. because that's not what people do when they can't fearfully hide behind anonymity.

I get pretty mean and worked up over that stuff online sometimes. It's kind of embarrassing to be honest :/ I just hate the idea of "backing down"

Im nicer in real life, I have no second thoughts about telling someone I think they are wrong on touchy subjects. IRL I avoid religion discussion, politics, and other things that can chap peoples ass.

I guess we all (admit it everyone) are to an extent more opinionated on IIN due to the fact that we are basically anonymous on the internet.

I'm always the same whether on IIN or real life. However, on here I have more opportunities to come off as nice, whereas there are not many in my real life or that many people to see my kindness.

I'm nicer online more so than offline. I've tried to be kind and polite to people offline, but it has usually gone done the drain.

I think I'm nicer IRL. Online, I don't feel as bad if I act like a total bitch.

I'm a hell of a lot more nice online. IRL I'm a wallflower who hardly ever smiles. XD

  • I dont know what it is either, but online I just cannot stop myself from trolling. Its like this itch I just have to scratch, and the more outrageous or more controversial or more pissed I can make the other person the better it is.

I mean I just love it. I also enjoy being an asshole in real life as well.

I wouldn't know unless someone pointed it out to me and since nobody I know in my real life is on here, that's not going to happen anytime soon.
