Are visible tattoos now socially acceptable?

What are peoples thoughts on highly visible tattoos these days, such as sleeves, neck/throat, hands/fingers, etc?
Basically things that can't be covered...
Are they becoming more socially acceptable?

Would you or have you got tattoos that cannot be hidden?

If commenting please give an idea of age so we get an idea of whether younger people think it's more acceptable than older people, etc....

It really depends on the content of the tattoos.

    • Oh definitely, good point...
      Obviously nothing purposely offensive.

If companies see that it may be offensive to someone then they will usually ask you to cover it up. If theres nothing offensive in the content of the tatts, then it has pretty much become acceptable now.

  • I'm a 19 year old female, been getting tattoos since I was 14. My first two were not easily visible but my 3rd was on my wrist, pretty large, it took up most of my forearm actually. Bright colours too. Later on I got more and more tattoos and the ones I have now that are easily visible are one large brightly coloured rose on each wrist, and a brightly coloured chest tattoo. Its covering my collar bones too si even if I wear my boyfriend's t-shirts, the top of the tattoo sticks out. They're done really well and so I'm not ashamed of them being visible. I plan on getting more colourful tattoos on my arms, hands and dainty letters on my fingers aswell as expending the chest tattoo but would never get throat or face tattoos. Luckily I don't work so the whole tattoos and job issue isn't an issue for me. My mother doesn't mind my tattoos at all and thinks they suit me and my personality. I think society should stop deeming things "socially unacceptable" if they don't like it because its none of anyone else's business what you do with your body.

Well if you want a professional job, no.
If you want to flip hamburgers, yes.

Tattoo discrimination still exists no matter what anyone says. If you want a professional job, visible tattoos can be a huge disadvantage when you're going in for a job interview and competing with 10 other people for a position. That's just the reality of today's world. To me, it's not worth it. I'll never get a tattoo for that and other reasons. To each their own. Your body, your choice.

    • That's a fair statement.
I'm not just talking about employment but obviously that is the sort of thing that could be negatively affected.

You mention for that & other reasons you will never get a tattoo.
Is that meaning only a visible one or any at all?
& may I ask, what are the other reasons?

Also, guy or girl? & how old?

Haven't you heard... Pretty much anything is socially acceptable these days. The more liberal the better.
