Are there any men who truly respect women?

Well, as my story goes, I didn't have a place to stay a couple weeks ago so I went to a cheap hotel and was going to pay with my credit card. A trucker was in line in front of me and he turns around and offers to buy my room, no strings attached. After finally agreeing, he explained to me that his daughter who is about my age got into some trouble and held out telling him about it for 3 months. He also bought me a pizza, "no strings attached".

I told my ex about this because I was a little worried about staying there alone at that point. He argued with me that there was no way this man's intentions were purely good and he was sure he still expected sex from me. He told me that truck drivers all have dirty minds and he was at least hoping for me to stop by his room. I was not bothered by the man at all. He brought me the pizza himself (which I did worry was laced) but my ex ate a piece and lived so I ate some for breakfast. Later we got into further discussion (after he kept smacking my ass) about the respectfulness of men. Being a woman, I can't say for sure, but I have hope that there are men who truly do women favors with absolutely no sexual expectations. It seems to me that my ex's view of men reflect his own twisted views.

What do you think, in regards to help and favors toward women?

I am a man - Men always sexualize attractive women 25
I am a man - Men do not always sexualize attractive women 58
I am a woman - Men always sexualize attractive women 10
I am a woman - Men do not always sexualize attractive women 20

  • You can be sexually attracted to someone and still show them respect.
Personally I am not sexually attracted to all women. Only select ones, but even then I am respectful toward them and do not expect sex.
I show somebody respect if they show me respect. It's that simple.

Respect is earned. Not a right.

    • I think everyone should respect people as people, no questions asked. Respect can be lost of course, but I think it's a bit ridiculous and arrogant to think the world owes you respect before you can show any mercy. You must have a pretty high title to expect such things.

I have a certain default amount of respect for all fellow human beings, before I get to know or interact with them.

Depending on knowledge and interaction my default status of respect for them will either grow or decline.

It does not depend on the gender.

Other issue: I think, expecting sex because of a favour is arrogant and kind of stupid. Being sexually attracted to a person and therefore helping said person, without expecting anything in return - that I wouldn't call disrespectful.

I respect them just as much as anyone else. Expecting all reasonably nice acts to be attempts to get in your pants is paranoia. Just read people and weigh your options.

That said, I will admit that when I do good deeds, I do secretly hope for a reward. A cash reward. $_$

Your ex sounds like a dick. Some people are just good people, regardless of their gender or the gender of the person they're being nice to.

  • Yes, there are men out there that will respect a woman when that woman is due respect. One bad experience with an individual man isn't enough to change that.

Personally, I don't respect women just for being women, same for men. I think respect should be earned. Ofcourse, a lack of respect in my opinion does not equal disrespect.

I personally don't like the idea being pressed that women must be respected under the assumption that us guys have this automatic respect for fellow penis wielders. Hence why I don't like the idea of chivalry, I see that as special treatment for no reason other than owning a vagina even though the original meaning of the word wasn't exclusive to women...Funny how as time goes on it's only the aspect of helping women that people talk about when it comes to chivalry.

But I digress. Most men do respect women that are due respect, however just like men, that respect needs to be earned.

    • Do you respect women as human beings? That is the question. If you notice a woman walking around who looks like she has nowhere to go would you offer her shelter out of the kindness of your heart, if you had the means to help? Or would you feel that she owes you something, namely of sexual nature, or secretly hope that she offers sex in return for your kindness?

      • Ofcourse women are human beings. I probably wouldn't help just as I wouldn't for a guy. And no.

I lost it at "fellow penis wielders"。゚(TヮT)゚。

But yeah plenty of guys that will do nice things without expecting something in return.
also lots of nice girls that will do nice things expecting nothing in return.

You did remind me of this one time I almost ran face first into a door...
this guy walked threw it and I was right behind him and boom let the door close right in my face.
I was pretty pissed off at the time lol.
who just lets a door close like that? Im so used to doors being held open that I dont expect people not to do it.
I do pay it back however I also hold doors open for people walking behind me.

But you talking about chivalry did make me think because I would not be with a guy who didnt hold a door open for me. I literally walk up to a door and wait for my bf to arrive and open the door for me. Its kinda weird if you really think about it... I could open the door if I arrive at it first but I just dont.... im spoiled :P

To add to this I tried opening a door when me and my bf had to run to the gas station quick. He said "what are you doing? I would have gotten it." Lol

As long as men are wiling to always respect women and stick up for them, chivalry will never die. So yes, I do believe there are still chivalrous men.

        You must be rich.

        Comment Hidden ( show )
    • I don't mean chivalry. I just mean the general respect a person should have for another person as a human being, i.e. seeing someone who is troubled and offering them help without expecting or secretly hoping for anything (namely a sexual act) in return for the aid.

I believe that general respect still exists too.

The fact that woman always assume that we want sex is just sad. I would be just fine with a thank you or a hug. I was born in 1983 and there is something really wrong with woman’s view of men today.

I have sex with women lots but I don't even try unless I see the woman making the move and I ask if they are absolutely sure. I hate men who disrespect women like that who just always want something.
Me and my sister did a social experiment she's 15 and she went up to male strangers that were over 18 saying she was lost and she needs money for the bus saying she was Desperet and stuff like that and out of 100 guys we asked only 6 gave her money without trying to make her have sex with her

I like how you waited to see if the pizza was ok, and yes there are truly respectful guys out there somewhere. Your ex isn't one of them though.

    • Eh, I might be a 7 on my good days. I think I just really looked stressed and I look young for my age. So I think the man was really feeling more pity than attraction.
