My impression is that the vast majority of IINers are from the usa, which I assume is what you mistakenly mean by "american" ...... I guess you yourself are a us citizen who like most of them, forgets that canadians and central and south americans are AMERICANS too: usa is far from the whole of america.

You forgot Mexico, that's North America not central or south American as a lot of ignorant people believe.

You forgot Greenland, the Caribbean, etc.

The official demonyn of citizens in the USA is American. America is the shortened version of The Republic of the United States of America. Australians never shorten anything. That's why you always call yourself Commonwealth of Australian and never just Australian or Aussie.

I didn't forget Mexico, I was referring to areas, not countries. Greenland????

WTF is a demonyn???? And we DO in fact refer to our country as Australia. You think we don't shorten anything? How about Tassie for Tasmania for a start?

I just googled it and it was only made up in 1997. I must've been doing something important at the time and missed it. Of course, I do know nearly everything but not actually everything.

    • I am not a US citizen but yes, I understand what you mean.

However, in my country, and I suppose in many others as well, we refer to 'Americans' as the people living solely in the USA, so yes, we would say Canadians, Americans, and South-Americans, but I don't think I ever heard anyone here say 'North-Americans'...

Incorrect, maybe, but that's what we got used to and it's not like we forget about the North, Center and South; it's just a matter of 'tradition' I suppose.

There are lots of Canadians at IIN. That's the country that gives IIN it's class.
