Are parents who decide against vaccination stupid?

I'm interested into what the is it normal community think about vaccination and immunisation. I've been vaccinated against most of the major infectious diseases that can affect the human body, like all my peers during school. It's just out of interest to see what the majority think about parents who refuse to vaccinate their children.

It's a well known fact that a Doctor in the UK falsely subjected many Autistic patients to invasive procedures, because he had created a flawed study into vaccines, (not any in particular, but most thought it was the Measles, Rubella and TB jab I assumed we all got when we were very young). The flawed study concluded that vaccinations were causing Asperger's and Autism. But by the time the Medical community debunked the theory entirely, it was too late for parents who believed in the study to create Skeptics Societies about vaccines. Do you think these parents are stupid?

I don't think their stupid, but I do think they're badly misinformed and far too sensitive to the media's scaremongering. I blame the media more than I blame the parents, but that doesn't absolve them of responsibility entirely. It's a very complicated argument, so I don't think I agree that it should be the parent's choice. A child is more than an extension of parental will. On the other hand, who else should make the choice? Giving that choice to the state or to a baby too young to even talk hardly seem like better options. Giving the choice to academic consensus is more sensible, even though it infringes on freedom for the parent and the child.

I agree with both the top and bottom yes. The middle yes, maybe, but I think you could make the argument that not vaccinating your child is like refusing them medical treatment because of your religion.

I believe parents who don't vaccinate their children are not only careless for only believing the media's crap but also selfish. By not vaccinating your kid, you're also heightening the possibility for other children who aren't vaccinated for various reasons to develop disease. 'Heard vaccination' is a real thing. If enough people are vaccinated in a group, it seriously helps keep one child who perhaps can't be vaccinated safe.

On another note, imo, the media really shouldn't be allowed to spread such blatant lies about vaccines. I mean, government censorship is a negative in the way that it lets false propaganda be spread, but on the other hand now the media just seems to be going in the opposite direction. Proclaiming their own rubbish for sales, regardless of the suffering it may lead to. Some thicker lines really need to be drawn on the freedom of what they can and cannot say.

The state government here decided to let a skeptic speak, unrestricted at a summit. They should've banned her, and there were four petitions to ban her, which fell on deaf ears because of the "Right to Free Speech".

Here in Queensland, Queensland Health had a convention where the Australian Vaccination Skeptics Association was allowed not only to set up a stall, but deliver a 90 minute speech. The woman who runs the association had to be guarded, because of death threats and the like. But the organiser of the event let her speak, because, of course, the right to free speech. MOST people decided to rebuke the speech, but misinformed parents will still believe in the flawed study by former Dr Andrew Wakefield, even though it was thoroughly debunked. This particular woman who's the head of the AVSS has been trying for airtime on TV and radio. She's hit the headlines with her baloney.
