Are my views on black people normal?

I'm a realist who can admit that white people and black people (or any race) DO have differences. Physically and culturally. You can tell your heritage from your bones.

I have been called racist before, but because I use terms like 'black' instead of 'African America' (I don't see you calling me German-American Indian-French-Canadian. I feel if you were born in America you are just 'American'. We needn't list our ancestry) and that I don't believe in things like the National Negro College Fund or Affirmitive action. All races should get college money and we should get jobs based on skill. I also find it amusing when I brought up a theoretical 'National Caucasian college fund' it was deemed EXTREMELY racist.

I will call out things that are 'reverse' discrimination that favors black people over everything else. Basically, I hold everyone to the exact same standards. It's gotten me in trouble with my mostly black college peers, but I wont sugarcoat my opinions. No one race should be favored. And if you don't want me to use a word, don't use it yourself.

Honestly I don't see myself as racist. If I see a bunch of mean looking black guys I'll cross the street as fast as I would if I seen a bunch of mean looking white guys. I'll make race jokes at ANY race, and I believe that some stereotypes exist for a reason. Mostly because you're more likely to remember the loud, saggy panted, 'thug life' black guy then you are the quiet and respectable black guy. Same with any race, nationality, etc.

However, I do think of black people as being more racist. I've been called 'Cracker' more times than I can count. But I've never made an argument about race. Infact, I outline the history of the word 'Cracker'. It comes from the word 'Whipcracker' referring back to the slavery days when they were whipped. And that makes ME racist. And it's been assumed, multiple times, that I am avoiding talking to black people because I'm racist. I'm just a quiet girl who doesn't talk much outside of class and enjoys reading in public places.

So, am I 'normal' or 'racist'?

If they are African American then I guess I'm European American? Lol, Obviously every American's heritage stems from somewhere else. But the only people who don't require our native land to be mentioned is the whites.

Black people think the world owes them something.

I know right if you aren't politically corrrect these days you are a considered a major racist. It is so wrong, I mean gosh darnit if I say the term "black" instead of "African American" I' m a racist. African Americans sometimes refer to eachother as "nigga", nobody else can refer to them as that. Thats whats wrong with America is everything has to be politically correct.

In my opinion black people play the slavery card to much. I mean sure most slaves in this country before the civil war were African Americans but some of them were inidian, white and other nationalities. In the 1800's even black people owned slaves! Slavery has always been a part of history. Do you ever hear the Jews complain about WWII? I think not!

FINALLY, someone who can see the sad truth of what the world we live in has become.

OP, you are very wise. It just sucks that people who point out the truth like you are seen in a negative light.

Keep up the good work. It's nice to know that people like you still exist.
I really hope you're still reading this so that you can see that you have my support and that of many others.

I don't think anything about this is racist. People get so confused and make utterly ridiculous statements that suggest everyone is exactly the same. We're not the same. However, we should be given the same opportunities. I think that's what gets people.

If something is different they're used to treating it differently. In actuality, I think it's perfectly acceptable (even common sense) to treat people differently; usually it's out of respect. What we shouldn't do is limit people's opportunity.

I am more confused than ever. We just buy crackers in our house. We don't have to make them part of the family or anything. I respect your customs, though.

The only issue I have with your post is with calling the U.S., America.

Americans are born in the United States of America.

Americans, Mexicans, Canadians, Chileans, Brazilians, Peruvians, the Surinamese, Hondurans, Panamanians, etc. are all born in America.

Of course I know what you mean, 90% of the country refer to themselves as 'America'. It's a technicality and a pet peeve of mine, I just thought I'd mention. Didn't think it deserved a thumb down, though. Haha.

The reason why minorities have so many scholarships is there are many factors that hinder most of their potential( this doesn't apply for all minorities, i am generalizing). minorities tend to have lower income, due to many different reasons, mainly discrimination and oppression. Also, their culture has changed and many of them turned to drug dealing, being in a gang, and other detrimental lifestyles. Those scholarships are a way for those minorities who live this way to have a chance to succeed. The problem is that people assume that all minorities go through this and they don't. They also assume that Caucasians do not suffer from financial problems or join in this lifestyle, and therefore, don't need assistance. Despite believe that America has changed, it is still as discriminatory and biased as before, and i am Hispanic so i know from experience when i say that there are more people abusing the benefits the government provides for minorities than using them for more important reasons(food stamps, unemployment, etc.)

    • Darn! I just had me another baby! Better go to the wellfare and get sum moneiz!

I know what you mean. It can't help that the 'thug life' is glamorized in popular music these days.

I was raised in that scene. My mom and dad did crack daily. My dad sold it. We had drivebys and one time I watched my dad actually shoot my uncle. It took them three tazers to get him to come down. I had to fight to survive, but nobody would guess it because I'm paler than a ghost, reserved, and prefers books over people.

They constantly pick on everybody even their own friends...they always say "it's cuz I'm black right?" WTF no....I do find some nice and think they have had a hard life because of slavery that is fucked up...

  • I think the difference is due to the way in which our ancestors arrived in the Americas.

Some (the white folks) came to make a better life for themselves and their families.

Others (black Africans) came because they were brutally kidnapped, beaten, raped, and forced to work as slaves for white people. And this sort of "background" has repercussions that last for generations upon generations.

Slavery ended a long time ago, but the effects of it are still visible in the generations that are alive today. The laws no longer condone slavery, but it will take much longer for the oppressive cultural norms to subside. Until then, the descendants of slaves have a tough legacy to overcome.

    • Indians had their children forcibly taken away from them to be raised by white families within the last 40 years. Check out the "Indian Adoption Project". My great grandmother was raped and forced to have the baby of her adopted 'father' at a young age.

There were more Indians killed by the US government then Jews in the Holocaust. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_Native_Americans_were_killed_by_the_US_government The low number being 10 million. The high number for Slaves killed on the boat ride over are 1.3-4 million. After that it wasn't profitable to kill your slaves, not sure where the line between victim of slavery death or just old age for the time. I mean, if they died cause they bled out from whipping, thats a slave death. But if they just tripped down some stairs and died I'm not sure how you'd count that.

So the whole 'Slavery' argument isn't quite valid point. All races have suffered from one point or another.

Not racist. racist is dislike of a race or causing harm to them for no reason other than your dislike. Admitting differences and not agreeing with preferential treatment isn't racist.
I think people talk entirely too much about race, period. We should focus on the fact that were all people and stop asking "Race" on job applications. I never answer that question.

I think your views are normal and you seem like a sensible person. When I came here I was expected to read a wall a offense and racist text that would make some poor black person find new ways to hate them self or white people but I'm glad that expectation wasn't met, lol.

I agree with a lot of what you wrote since I hold a lot of those same beliefs. I am black and believe that being black shouldn't grant me special treatment over white people. After a traumatic racial history the last thing I need is to pitied because I'm black.

    • XD The white college thing was just a mirror of the National Negro college fund to make a point. I think everyone should get to go to college if they want! n.n Which is more likely to come from lowering the cost to go than making more scholarships.

I could honestly see why it could sound racist coming from a white person. There's been a 'holier than thou' attitude going on for a really long time. I've actually been discriminated against because of my color (SUPER pale. I like to say I'm an Albino Indian, really I just stay in a lot XP) before and that's why I take a stance that we should all be held to the same standards as everyone else.

I don't expect to get special treatment because I'm Indian. What happened to my ancestors was horrible, and still within the last 40 years has the treatment been continued. But I don't think their suffering should bring a boon for me. I highly doubt they were thinking 'One day my great grand-daughter will get a reward from my death!' I think they would want me to be a stronger, independent person who shows the world that she can, and will, stick up for herself and make a difference in the world.

Ahh , your not racist just practical. But whites can't be practical in these terms without all the do gooders jumping all over them. Notice blacks can treat and call whites anything or way they want- it's total bs.
Every country/people have likes and dislikes even hates - all the time , of their neighbours ,or the other religion, or the other culture, or the other race , it's quite normal and been that way for 1000's of yrs . But for some reason the whites/black thing gets politically corrected until we're all brain dead from it- total bs.
I can't stand some things about blacks but there's other things I admire- so what that's not racists just practical honesty - they'd feel the same way about me/us.

One thought comes to mind though , maybe if it's just left to flow in it's true natural way ,things might explode between the two bc if you ask me neither really like each other all that much deep down but it's a case of have to live together so best keep it civil .

But really , if it was left up to natures laws centuries ago , the two totally different races wouldn't even be sharing the same country anyway .

  • I agree with the ancestry thing, I don't understand why mostly Americans need to say, "I'm German-Dutch-French-American" when you are simply "American".

Same with me, my Grandmother was Portuguese but I am English.

As for the racist stuff, I don't think you are. You hold no malice towards anyone it seems and as races we do have differences, such as bone structure and facial traits. But it doesn't make you racist for knowing and acknowledging that.

you sound reasonable enough. just remember not to take the racist jokes too far and not everyone finds something they're sensitive about (race) a good basis for a joke.

Basically in the US if youre a minority (not white) you get special privileges in colleges and companies get extra money for hiring you. Not based on merit, strictly because of your color. They even hold minorities to lower standards in colleges and on tests than Caucasians. This is what the op is upset about. It certainly doesn't seem fair to anyone, in fact it is kind of saying youre "not good enough" to be up to Caucasian standards. Not good for anyone of any color.
