Are levis fireproof

A few days ago Jane turned the cooker on with a towel over the burner. When she saw what she had done she quickly pulled it off, but it had already caught alight.
Not wanting to let embers fall on the floorcovering she put it out by scrunching it up against the thighs of her Levis. Although it made them quite black, after they were washed there were no burn marks on them.
Has anyone else ever used used denim jeans to put a fire out or seen someone else do it?

Any cloth can smother a fire, unless its soaked in gas for other flammable materials.

The cloth can smother it and not get burned, but if you lit it normally, than it will burn just the same

This sounds like it would make a good story. Levi's are high quality and last quite awhile, but I don't know if they're made to stand up to fire.

Lev brand jeans are the best, they don't burn easily, they clean easily and they are comfotable, wranglers burn easily though so I dunno

I don't think I would have used pants that I was wearing to do so but the science behind it makes sense. While denim can and will burn it is hard to light on fire initially unless you light it at a frayed edge which with catch easier.

O.K.,,I'll be the one to say " HOT PANTS"!! I hope others will be wise enough to watch out for fire dangers,, and NOT use their crotch, as a fire extinguisher! Of courese,,with me being a guy, I can put out a small fire, with my fire hose.

  • I dont think they are fireproof. The lack of oxygen put the fire out the black on the jeans was from the burning cloth thats all. If you set jeans alight they will burn just not as quick as a thinner piece of material
