Saying they're all small minded would be too harsh. Most people just accept whatever values they grew up with. I wouldn't call every liberal open minded either - They also might just be copying someone else.
What makes them small or broad minded is wether or not they're willing to listen to the other side, and if they're open to change their opinion.
By that definition 90% of all politicians are small minded (left and right).
Some studies show that as people become more and more acquainted with homosexuals, the more tolerant they become towards them. It's possible that never actually having met with and befriended a homosexual might explain some homophobes' disdain for them. Homophobia is also more common in patriarchal cultures than elsewhere; the less patriarchal a culture, the less homophobic, generally. Oh, and there's also the whole religious fundamentalism thing going on; some religions have problems with homosexuality.
Homos are pretty small minded themselves, they hate everyone who isn't the same as them and act like sex is the most important thing in the world.
They're no more small minded than the people who close their minds to them in return.

Gay ppl affect everyone one way or another. They spread disease in society, they contribute to liberal stupidity and political correctness, they vote for inconpetent leaders. They are sinners no matter how nice they may be. And nowadays they are intolerant of anyone who disagrees with their views. you dont need to be homophobic to know that gay ppl are a problem
