Are flamboyant gay men the cause of animosity...?

Are flamboyant gay men a large, if not the main, cause of animosity towards the gay community? I believe that they might be a large part of it, with their annoying and off-putting behaviour. What are your thoughts on this?

Its just that homophobes seek out those who are like that and paint them as the face of the gay community. Its a stereotype. Many haters will seek out what the "worst" of those in the group they despise and act like thats the entire group.

Its like saying all republicans are hateful overly patriotic bible thumping gay bashers, or all democrats are idiotic anti-American granola eating hippies.

Of course, it doesn't help that some of those in a group that do act that way are rather vocal about it, and tend to be rather pushy.

I would say homophobia is the problem, not someone's personality traits.

I personally think it has to due with religion.

No, ignorance, religion and miseducation are the reasons for the animosity. Everyone has the right to be who they want to be. And flamboyant men are such a small percentage of the gay community (maybe they are even more common among straight men) that they can't really have any impact on this.
By the way, I never understood why "stereotypically gay" behaviour should be annoying or off-putting, I personally find it rather entertaining.

Is being a homophobe not a personality trait?
