Are a lot of comments bots now?

All over the internet I notice mass comments that all sound the same and I'm wondering if these are all bot/scam accounts, or if people are just copying what others say.

Like on a news story posted on facebook, if someone has died, the majority of comments have the same exact wording in them like "My condolences to the family" and "My condolences go out to this family" -- and it's just very nuanced things like that.

Another video was about beauty standards in this one country. You don't have to agree with the topic, but I found it odd that most comments were very hateful, but very similar, such as...
- What a disgusting toxic culture. I'm glad I don't live there
- Disgusting culture. I'm glad I wasn't born there
- Disgusting and toxic culture and people
- Toxic culture and disgusting. Glad I don't live there

It's just so weird?? Those comments have to be automated? I clicked on numerous profiles and none of them have content on them so yeah

Yes. It's annoying as shit especially those that put shady links in the comments. Except here of course. The comments here are fucking crude there is no way some stupid bots type them.

Toxic and disgusting comment. Glad I didn’t write it.

Many of the users are such low quality that they now appear to be bots 🤣

I think that with the rise of ChatGPT, it's extremely versatile nature, and high accessibility, more seemingly human bots and content will start manifesting on the internet.
But, I think in the cases you're listing, it's likely just inarticulate internet users, or the language barrier (People who don't speak fluent English trying to write English text) in action.

That just sounds like predictive text and lazy writers.

I don't know that those are bots, they could just be typing really similar posts because it's the first thing to come to mind (or autocomplete) and they have no creativity or imagination.

But yeah, they could also be bots trying to drum up legitimacy by having a post history. Checking out their profiles would shed more light on it.

  • I don't know about that either. Maybe not since the comments have very nuanced differences to them
