Apparently i'm in denial, iin?

I had a doctors appointment today. I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. I don't have an eating disorder. I just don't get hungry a lot. They told me it's dangerous. They told me I have to put on weight. I feel fine. The only reason I can see the outline of my ribs is because I don't work out at all, I don't have a lot of muscle mass to cover them. I could see them all my life, as long as I can remember. They told me denial is common. I'm not in denial. I have a lot of friends that are thin. They don't get diagnosed with anorexia, do they? Just because I'm not obese like the rest of America doesn't mean I have a disorder...

It's normal you are in denial.

The thing is, correct me if i'm wrong, that bulimia is seen as the classic eating disorder, with throwing stuff up. Anorexic doesn't eat in the first place. Which is what you do.

Now, you may say you don't get HUNGRY a lot. But your body still has needs, of 1500-2000 kilocalories per day. Do you fulfill those?
Muscle mass/ribs/etc. doesn't matter, i know people who just happen to be slim and you see their ribs, others who don't eat more and are borderline obese.

The question is if you DO fulfill your bodies physical needs of about 1800 kilocalories per day. If you do eat that much or more, feel free to deny your diagnose. If you eat less than that, then your "not getting hungry a lot" fulfills the diagnose perfectly.
In both cases, you may also monitor your weight. If it gets less, then obviously you are forcing your body to "eat up itself", because you don't provide enough for it.
Denial is something fun, but only if its not dangerous. With something like anorexia, stick to the facts, thats a lot healthier.

I don't think you're in denial... Not all doctors know best. Just because your thin doesn't mean you have a problem. Just eat healthy and things should be fine.

If your doctor says you have an eating disorder.. YOU DO.. Being in denial doesn't help your physical or emotional health. If you start working out, it could help you physically and emotionally. Exercise ha many benefits.. wouldn't be a bad idea.. plus you'd get your doctor off your back maybe.. lol

I agree with the above poster. You still need a certain amount of calories to stay healthy. You might not feel there's is anything wrong with you now, but it could hurt you later down the road. Ask your doctor what could happen if you keep doing what you're doing. (If you are eating less that 1600 calories or whatever the minimum is.) Keep in mind that there are many reasons why people are anorexic.

Perhaps they were misguided, it does happen. Or perhaps you are experiencing an accidental disorder. Good luck with this journey. Best of wishes to you.

If you are under your healthy BMI then whether you're hungry or not you should sit down to meals at regular times. Even if you're not hungry you should force yourself to eat. Your body needs nutrition for all your organs. Even healthy supermodels don't have ribs that stick out. You should have enough fat under your skin to insulate you and at the very least cover your ribs.

My mom always lived by the motto that we should all carry at least 7lbs in case we get sick. Once when I had jaundice at 17yo I lost 35lbs as I couldn't eat without vomitting for weeks. I hope this doesn't happen to you coz if you caught a disease like that you could die.

You should not be comparing yourself to your friends coz that's not what's important when it comes to your health. If you get really sick you'll be lucky to get a phone call from them never mind a visit coz people get busy enjoying themselves and sickness it boring!!

Eat up and enjoy tasty treats :o)
