Anyone else appreciate medicine as much as i do?

So lately I've been thinking, and I've come to realise that without modern western medicine, we'd all be fucked. As a child I just took whatever medicine I was told to when I was sick, and that was that. I never considered learning how or why the medicine works, but lately I'm beginning to comprehend just how important medicine really is.

I often look up remedies online for all sorts of ailments, and I find it rather astonishing how many people try every last homeopathic, home remedy and old wives tale they can possibly come up with before they actually just suck it up and take normal, effectiveness-guaranteed western mecidine.

To be honest, it kind of irritates me when I tell people I have to take this and this medication, and they start rattling off all the side effects of the medicine and how awful it is and how I'm going to get cancer. Do people just not realise that modern medicine actually greatly improves if not saves lives? Or is it just another trendy thing to do these days to be so against medicine, like how everyones suddenly becomming vegan?

Seriously, if it wasn't for medicine, the ones I take anyway, I would be living a very inconvenient, stressfull, painful life. I'm ridiculously thankful for having access to take medicine for all my issues.

Does anyone else appreciate medicine the way I do? Is anyone else on chronic, long term and absolutely nessecary medicine and would like to share what it is, and what you take it for?

I currently take Ovral birth control pills for a few upsetting gyneacological issues. Believe me, the strongest birth control pill in exsistence was not my first choice, but its nothing short of a miracle drug. I also take Prednisone cortisone pills for chronic eczema, whenever I have a flare up. I'm currently on a course of 20mg twice daily till my flare up clears.

I've studied both pharmacology and immunology and although medicines can help people they are also contributing to our immune systems becoming less effective. I used to suffer from tonsillitis once every 2 months or so and I thought penecilin was a miracle drug until I learnt a bit about how the immune system works. Last time I had a flare up I didn't bother with any antibiotics, I went through hell for a week or so but since then I haven't had tonsillitis for about 7 years.

I avoid pharmaceuticals as much as possible. The FDA is corrupt and I don't trust them at all. They're more in business to make money rather than cure. Herbs are healthier and cheaper. A win-win. It's annoying how so many pharmaceuticals are on commercials as if they were a public service announcement. They're there to make profit. I find it interesting that in the Edgar Cayce material there were CURES for cancer, there were CURES for diabetes. But those diseases are too profitable to cure. Some meds like prednazone (sp?) is actually borrowing from your future. Some pharmaceuticals and common substances are said to have been deliberately formulated to cause more diseases down the line. (Like high fructose corn syrup is to your pancreas, as driving with the emergency brake on is to your car.) They are aware of it and pretend it was an accident. Just follow the money.

  • Both are great, and for people like me alternative medicine works better most of the time than western medicine. My body is very sensitive, and responds quickly to change. I do not do well with most medications as they're too strong and in the long run make me sicker.

There's nothing wrong with using alternative medicine, just as there's nothing wrong with using conventional medicine. What works for onemay not work for others but that is no reason to dismiss it completely.

I use a combination of alternative therapies and treatments as well as conventional medication. I'm informed enough and sensible enough to know when I need one or the other. I have illnesses that can only be managed with medication (currently), as well as chronic back pain what I only manage with alternative treatments as the strength of painkillers I tried paralysed me temporarily and made me hallucinate. Hardly makes for a productive day.

I also have liver damage from a medication I took as a teen, that herbs are able to help. The gastroenterologist I saw for that said there was nothing he could do to improve it.

Don't be so quick to judge others for their choices. They may be better informed than you know.

Well, this post of mine was actually intended to get people who actually appreciate western medicine more than weird homeopathic crap, but thanks for the comments anyway..

I sort of expected the users of this site to lean more towards the "natural remedies are better and medicine is poison" side of things, but I was kind of hoping there were still some sane minded people out there who actually see how much we need medicine.

I've actually tried several natural remedies, and they're all a bunch of shit. There's no natural remedy for TB, HIV/AIDS, and NO natural remedy from the two things I suffer from.

Tried them all, they failed, and medicine will always, always work 100 times better than herbs and oils and special kinds of tea.
