Anybody have tips for breaking a weight loss plateau?

I had 40 pounds to lose. I lost 30 and then the scale wouldn't budge! After a couple months of not losing any weight, I said fuck it and decided to take a break from dieting for a few weeks. Now I'm ready to get back on track but I was wondering if you fine people had any tips for breaking a plateau and losing those last 10 pounds? Thanks! ;)

Eat five times a day. Three medium-sized meals and two snacks. Have at least five servings of fruits and vegetables. Separate them by two hours each. Drink plenty of water. Exercise moderately, about four times per week is enough. I lost 60 pounds by doing this.

You lost 30lbs? Great. Honestly? Just stick with whatever you're doing. That's impressive. Find a sport, forget the scale, measure results based on performance objectives. Get some annual blood tests. Done.

If you really want to drop that weight? You have to increase output. Clearly, your body finds what you're doing too easy. You don't need too cut calories. Sounds counter-intutive but the last thing you want to do is create muscle catabolism by under-nourishing yourself. Preserve your muscle tissue. Turn your game plan up you athlete you. :-)
Ever consider training for a triathlon?

I left out details. You can find any book that talks about paleo or weight loss that can help. The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson is a good one.

I'll never understand why people hate carbs, all that lovely energy that's good for the eyes, brain and kidneys. You can only store about 400 calories of glycogen in the liver at any one time, use that knowledge to your advantage if you want to burn away that fat.

    • I never had an issue with weight until recently and cutting carbs was the only thing that worked diet-wise. I cut flour, sugar and other similar carbs but kept the fruits and veggie carbs (20-30g a day). I actually prefer low carb now after getting used to it. Eating carby stuff now makes me feel heavy and bloated, although lots of that stuff is yummy.

Can you explain what your sciency stuff there means?

You eat a carbohydrate meal which raises your blood glucose which in turn releases insulin, insulin stores away any excess glucose as glycogen in the liver up to about 400 calories worth, any extra is stored in the muscles as glycogen. Your body will then use the blood glucose as energy which obviously will deplete over time, this will decrease insulin levels and increase glucagon levels, glucagon hormone replenishes blood glucose from the liver glycogen store, when this is used up though the glucagon levels will steadily increase until your body starts to metabolise your stored body fat as an energy source. One thing glucagon can't do is release stored glycogen from muscle. They say frequent small meals are best for losing weight however this is wrong as every time you eat any form of carbohydrates you are releasing insulin which actually promotes the storage of fat. I usually say eat as many carbs as you want for breakfast and lunch and then don't have any at all after that, it means that at about 5 PM till you wake up the next day your body will be using fat as it's primary energy source. One thing you definitely do not want to do is have any form of carbs just before you sleep as your metabolism is a lot slower while you sleep.

Carb diet... my bf lost 50 in about 3 months

You cant just stop it tho.
for the first week you eat no more then 20 carbs a day...you will feel awefull... after that you eat no more then 40 carbs a day.
When you want to stop you have to slowly eat more carbs.. like lets say 50 for a few days ... then bump it up to 65-70 for a few days then maybe 80... ect.
you could get very sick if you just eat a shit ton of carbs right away.

I have some good carb recipes if you would like :)

    • That's actually what I was doing. I'd do 30 or less carbs a day and any carbs I ate were fruits or veggies. I cut out flour, sugar, rice, potatoes and all that starchy carb-laden shit. I lost the 30lbs within just a couple months then I hit a wall. I tried mixing things up a bit, taking a few days off, less calories...more calories...still was stuck.

It's real frustrating! I bought some ephedrine but I don't really want to go that route. Do you know anything about juice fasting?

My bf also went running sometimes and did pushups and set ups about 3-4 times a week before he took his shower at night.
