Any way to get rid of my narcissistic self?

I believed that I'm better than other people, I never knew what empathy meant, I never said anything or expressed gratitude to anyone in my family, I always blamed people for myself. I was always called a jerk but I want to go change myself I want to leave my narcissistic self and reform myself to a person who can be tolerated. I'm scared if my partner finds out I'm a narcissist she'll dump me. I always felt jealous of peoples achievements.

I want to get rid of my narcissist self. What can I do to get rid of my narcissistic personality?, I ask this because this will destroy my name and destroy my appearance it would destroy everything I have.

I have to blame myself for being the jerk that people see me as.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

“I'm scared if my partner finds out I'm a narcissist she'll dump me.”

Errr she’d experience it, she’d already know if you were.

      My first thought.

    • My point is that I don't want her to have the wrong impression and I really want to get rid of my narcissistic self. I have self realised it isn't who I actually am. When she figures out I'm one of those guys she'll never talk to me again.

I'm not letting narcissism take over me, I am wanting to do whatever it takes to change myself, I am doing this for myself and not for anyone, they cannot make me change only I can change myself. This was the sole reason why I have posted this and asked people.

I wanted advise from people to stop this as well as asking people in real life ( people that I know in life not that this matters. ).

People will start to dislike me and dislike the fact that they see me as some narcissist. ( I don't want people to dislike me it does not sound funny or cool in my books. ).

People I trust would start to leave me and never talk to me again.

I'm still not going to give up on erasing that erasing the narcissistic self.

If you want to get rid of your narcissistic self then you aren’t a narcissist in the first place. You see, your narcissism would prevent you from accepting your faults...like narcissism.

Well it's a good thing you realize this problem yourself. That makes you better than a large majority of narcissists that does not care how they hurt people as long as they get what they want.
Therapy is of course a good start, if you're gonna be serious about it. Don't lie to the therapist and be certain you want to change. You can probably practice on your own as well to try and see how your words and actions affect other people, and even if you don't understand why they feel hurt - to respect that they do and stop doing hurtful things.

    • Looks like I'll need to book myself in to see a therapist just like last time.

      This will 100% benefit me.

Idk man ur just narcissistic. Narcissism will keep you from changing because you are narcissistic. So, it's either your not narcissistic and u just want to believe you are or you are and it's impossible. It do be like that sometimes.

There's this saying that what you resist, persists; what you accept you can let go of.

  • After you recognize negative traits, start ignoring the tendency and having a back up plan. Stop thinking about it as a possible option, if you're not narcissistic anymore then you'd have to act in ways that are healthy, so you'd have to be able to rationalize your behavior in accordance with mental health.

What mental health can mean for you might be different, for me I've studied a lot of psychologists like Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow, Frederick Nietzsche, and many x developments by modern psychologists, philosophers like Socrates and disciples, Alan Watts, Hinduism/Buddha, I watched a lot of YouTube videos of college professors, research on psychology topics, modern spirituality and philosophy.

I created a lot of good resources to pull from so I feel more and more confident about my decision making abilities and deductive reasoning skills.

Alan Watts once went into this story about practice makes improvement, the point is to avoid stagnancy/complacency in one's life, to never fall into the hubris of thinking you're the apex

A video by Academy of Ideas talked about a theme of arguable geniuses like Mozart, Beethoven, and Van Gogh all went through periods of depression that ended up creating the most beautiful pieces. Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, I swear he knew about binaural beats.

The point there is pretty similar to this other story about a beautifully pristine white flower blooming out of a pit of mud or the idea of a diamond being created out of intense heat and pressure. Don't get so caught up in negative happenings, become stronger for being aware of them.

I feel like that's where I'm at, I have good ground work, now I'm fine tuning things. I can tell there's so much more to learn though, I've seen so many smarter people I can tell have really developed techniques.
