Anxiety at work

Hi, I have got a new job. I'm familiar with the industry. But every job is different despite having prior experience. Anyway, I feel like I'm going to get fired soon because I'm only on a trial period and the nerves are getting the best of me. I am shy and its awkward around my boss. I don't know what to talk about. My boss has hinted me I cant be like this all the time and they get a "feeling" I'm not right for them because of my nerves.
I know many people can do my job much better and settle immediately so that's what he is probably thinking. But surely most employers even the toughest bosses are a little lenient during the first week?

Your boss probably doesn't even want you to talk - he's paying you to work, and doesn't want to break your concentration. Anyway, you will get better and better at the job as time wears on. Don't worry about it - just get on with the job.

  • What good does worrying do? Stop feeding your fears and -focus- on your work.

    "But what if..."

But nothing. Your boss isn't paying you to be a good conversationalist but to work hard to increase the reputation of the company. And if he wants to talk then be yourself. Don't let fear play a part.

  • I find that many put a lot of pressure on you just to scare you so you set in quicker. When you get used to it, you'll realize they're just pushing you at first when you're probably doing better than those already there.
