Annoying sounding instruments?

Does anyone older than 10 play the recorder? It is king of the shit instruments.

I used to play the clarinet. It was like having a wooden lollipop stick in my mouth that had to be kept to a certain dampness. If you mess up dampness or tension or breath control, it squeaks like a banshee. The oboe was even harder because it has two reeds. Played well, they both sound wonderful, though.

I can't say I like the theremin or stylophone either. Hmm, or the accordion. And I don't think anyone really likes bagpipes (although it amuses me that they're Dudelsack in German).

I HATE bagpipes! The worst sounding instrument I've ever heard. Actually the Hurdy Gurdy is similar, check it out. Awful.

All the others on your list can sound beautiful when played well. Bagpipes sound WORSE when played well.

Depending on the skill of the player any instrument can sound awesome or sound like shit.

i actually love bagpipes.

for some reason, i cannot stand LIVE cello music. i can deal with it on a recording, or maybe on rare occasion if it's in a full orchestra i can handle it live, but there's some weird frequency it hits... something that sounds very flat, that completely irritates me and makes me cringe. i get the same weird sensation when i hear a harley davidson (specifically - other motorcycles are ok).

Banjo isn't really annoying.

It does depend on the skill of the performer, sometimes it isn't always the case.

Bagpipes are definitely at the top. I actually used to love them when I was younger, but seeing them in person is annoying and the sound is loud enough to deafen someone.
- Banjo
- A lot of instrument that are played with the mouth like a trumpet or a accordion.
- instruments that are played in marching bands like cymbals.
- instruments that you hit (cowbells, triangles,etc)

Every time I hear the accordion, I have flashback from the 3rd grade.

To be honest, I DO like the interesting sounds each one creates and I appreciate their worth in music.

The one instrument I'm inclined to pick would be the theremin. I admit, it does get annoying. All those screechy sounds.

I was wandering through my neighborhood last week and I stumbled upon a group of about 10 men playing bagpipes. It amused me. But any instrument can be annoying if played poorly, or if you have a headache.

I can't really pick one to vote for. In the hands of the right musician, any instrument can sound amazing. Accept for the kazoo possibly.

Bagpipes and accordions are annoying. I also find vuvuzelas and recorders annoying, although I don't consider them to be instruments.

Terrible vocal chords are the worst. At times I create this horrid sounding organic instrument. :-p

I cannot appreciate the sound of harmonicas.
