Annoyed at people who think "natural is better"?

I was just on a forum where people claimed that "olive oil is obviously safe as a sexual lubricant because its natural". (In case your wondering further researched showed it reduces the effectiveness of the latex.)

Does it annoy anybody else how so many people automatically assume natural/organic stuff is better when they have no reason for believing so?

To be clear I'm not claiming natural stuff is worse. I am just annoyed when someone claims it is better with no basis for their claim.

I hate it too. People shouldn't make ignorant statements. 50
Natural/organic stuff IS better! Why else would everyone claim it is? 6
I have researched this and in general natural/organic stuff is better. 26
I don't believe "natural is better" but I don't care if others do. 23
Shut up you idiot, this is a stupid poll because (please add comment). 20

I'm all for home remedies, but this natural kick is ridiculous, and very sad when people try to pull crap like curing their own cancer naturally, sans chemotherapy (actually met a person who is doing this!).

Also females look amazing with a touch of makeup, I'm sick of hearing hypocritical guys say they like girls all natural with no makeup, but end up paying the makeup-less girls NO attention.

People should also see the benefits of genetically modified foods before spatting that everyone should only eat natural home-grown foods! I spent my whole life growing food on a ranch and guess what? We spray pesticides all over that shit too! Guess what happens when you let things be natural? You get pincher bugs in your ears of corn, which is horrifying to husk.

For people to believe natural is better is absolutely great if they have strong reasoning behind it and aren't just doing it out of blind ignorance of they heard they should from so and so.

It all depends on what the product is. In some aspects Natural IS better.

My Mother lives in Idaho, her and her husband hunt for their own meat, and only get vegetables and fruits that are locally grown. When I go there for vacation from time to time my stomach gets upset, mainly because my body has to adopt to eating natural foods instead of hormone induced meat, etc. After a couple of days my body gets used to it, and believe it or not I feel 1000x times better. When I come home and start to eat the crap out of the grocery store I get sick, and after a couple days I may feel better but I never feel as good as I did eating wild caught/farmed foods.

In that aspect yes, natural is better. In some cases no it's not. I find it better to do some research, and decide if natural is the way to go when it comes to remedies. Yes I can pump myself full of drugs to get myself over a cold or I can go the natural way, pump myself full of vitamin C, get plenty of rest, and stay hydrated, consuming chicken broth/soup does in fact work.

It all depends.Personally I choose NOT to use medications unless I really have to.

Olive oil (made by crushing part of a plant) would be great for firebreathing, except it isn't, and high-proof alcoholic beverage is the most natural and least noxious thing that's good (made by crushing part of a plant, letting yeast fall into it till the proof stops rising, rubbing two sticks together to make fire, finding certain rocks and melting them in it, then beating and fire-welding it into a kettle and worm tube, then heating it and collecting what comes out). Also, if you ever breathe in, fire will go into your lungs and burn it's very delicate tissue. People have even had the fire stream sneakily travel back into their fuel container causing it to explode shards of broken glass and burning liquid. Very natural.

Also, olive oil is a bad sexual lubricant, it requires constant reapplication as it gets gummy and slowly absorbs into the skin, and if you don't wipe it off afterwards it absorbs faster than the body can get rid of it, it can't be washed off anymore, and goes into your ball sack and makes it sore for about 30 hours. And any oil makes condoms not work.

I hate that too. You know what else is natural? Poison ivy, nightshade, and tobacco plant. Just because something is 'natural' or is a plant doesn't mean anything.

Most of my family are natural nuts, and the always say don't eat that its cancer causing, don't eat that it'll give you diabetes.I eat relatively healthy and leave it at that. And olive oil for sex sounds naaasty but coconut oil is fun and exotic and makes her shiiiny and sliick, then I rub all over her body and smack her butt then watch he turn over and rock back an.....nevermind sorry lol

I absolutely hate this "If it's natural, then it HAS to be better!" attitude.
I mean, I love natural foods etc, and I never take anti-biotics for minor flus, but, the reason for that is not because they're "unnatural" but because someday I might be sick and in actual need of an anti-biotic, and if I had been taking them my whole life for minor sicknesses, I might build up an immunity to the drug, making treatment more difficult. So in terms of natural being better, I wouldn't say I'm saying that, what I'd prefer to say is that natural immunity can be relied on to a point. However, when that point is crossed, (Diagnosed with Cancer, for example) it's time to let chemo take over.

I'd like to use an example of a blow-fish. A freshly caught blowfish, degutted and cooked perfectly. Sounds natural and healthy, right? Well if the person degutting penetrated the liver, a poisonous fluid can infect the meat, possibly killing the person eating it.
There's an extreme example of how natural is NOT always better.

I hate their (Natural) cafes too. The workers stink like old B O, don't wash their hands after peeing & pooping then make sandwiches, scratch their unwashed stink dread-lock hair then make salad, leave the food out on the counter 5-8 hours; If you want to stay healthy keep out of their Natural Restaurants

Organic / natural is just a label used to jack up prices on products, what a fucking rip off

It pisses me off when people won't seek medical treatment to cure some really debilitating illness simply because it's not "natural". Then they suffer and/or die. I don't have sympathy for them.

This reminds me of this moron I knew who was bi-polar among other things. He used this as his main reason for smoking weed, and claimed how good it was because it's natural, and so on. How doctors had prescribed him lithium, and he didn't want to take it because 'there's lithium in batteries, and it's so unnatural'....Apparently, he's unaware that lithium is a fucking element, and you don't get any more natural than that.

So, yeah, I see what you are saying, people need to think and look into things before just jumping on the bandwagon. There's plenty of all-natural shit that will kill you and there's plenty of unnatural shit that won't harm you.

Arsenic is completely natural! But it ain't good for ya!

  • So far two people have said they've researched and natural is better. I screwed up making this poll, I should have really asked them to site their sources in the comment section.

If anyone has good references of why organic/natural is better please post them.

I agree with you on this. People use this excuse for everything. It is natural so it must be good for you.

  • I only get annoyed about it when others shove it down my throat about how great it is. The same thing goes for some vegetarians.
