Really bad choice, him being in Thor. He should've been Papa Midnite in Constantine. Djimon Honsou is too classy for that role.

Plenty of non-white brits, irish and scottish...we as Americans don't see them because we're not in the habit of watching the BBC.

Being a European I hear them all the time, but it happens because it's like if a Japanese person was raised in Sweden, they would get a Swedish accent.

I'm from Britain so it's not a surprise for me at all (obviously).

What I really want to see is a white person growing up in an Asian country with a thick Asian accent :D That would be unexpected.

  • It is amazing how many people in the U.S. think that one's accent is influenced by genes. The so-called "black" accent descends from the southern American accent. Many American black people have it because they grew up in areas inhabited predominantly by black people who came from the south in the last century. The rest have it because they have identity issues and are consciously putting it on. I am never surprised to hear anyone of any race having any kind of accent whatsoever.

I have a friend whose family is from Bangladesh but she was brought up in Glasgow and has a thick Scottish accent. She wears traditional dress and it's hilarious seeing someone meet her for the first time. They never expect her to speak like that.

the only reason this happens (well to the indegionus) is in australia. the british came down. raped all the women. and got them to speak their language.

  • The poll maker is dumb. Almost three quarters of the population of England that are non whites have the british accent, including me. Why do you think it is so unusual like one in a million?

I like it. I've meet a few non white people with British accents

  • This is why I asked for Americans only, because as an American I know we ourselves have different accents within our country and we know what we are used to as far as being expected, even if it runs from being Southern to Boston. An English accent is NOT among the expected accents. Not in our wildest dreams!!

In other countries when they teach children to speak English they teach them British English not American English. So the kids are going to be learning English with the British accent. Also, there were a lot of British colonies all around the world so people living in those countries are speaking with the English accent. So it is completely normal to me to hear non white people with British accents.

How did you work that out? I had friends in school from portugal and zimbabwe but they had slight american accents because they were taught by americans before coming here. There are far more language resources from the u.s. and you have to adjust to english spelling and differences.
