Americans- are you planning on voting this election?

And who do you support?

Studies have shown that, if everyone eligible in the US voted, Obama would win by a landslide. But only about 30 percent end up actually voting, which is why the race is so close (also why the Republican side is trying to get fewer people to vote).

Yes, Obama 26
No, Obama 11
Yes, Romney 16
No, Romney 3
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I am not american. I think that Obama is the president who has succeeded in making the world loves the US a little and that he has changed the negative image that the US had while Bush was there.

Interesting stuff. This happens in the UK too. Although we have three parties. The Conservatives are your Republicans, Labour are your Democrats, and then we have the Liberals who sit between Republicans and Democrats and have some semblance of both. Liberal means balanced. Like Libra; the scales.

I know Liberal is seen as something different there, that it's one side of the argument as opposed to sitting between two arguments. Psephology seems to predict landslide liberal victories here if everyone voted, i.e. not everyone wants an extreme of Republicanism or Democracy but a happy medium. A strong arena for business but also strong protection for individuals.

You can't have middle ground in a two party system. In Britain, there's a three party system that works like a two party system because one extreme always gets in (apart from now, when we have a coalition). Either way, it's generally exactly the same here as it is there.

To comment directly on your question, though, I don't think either Obama or Romney are extremists. In a way, America is choosing the middle even though it doesn't exist as a party. I'd actually be surprised if Obama wins, though. The British populace went slightly right of centre and I think Americans will too. And, to be honest, it's probably in the best interests of America to do so.

Personal politics is all very well but the reality is like controlling a ship's rudder. You need to know when to edge right, and when to edge left. If you always veer the same way and say you are correct regardless, you get a ship that's going to go in circles.

I always vote. If you don't vote, you have no right to complain. But it's all pretty depressing.

I'm more focused on local elections. Our mayoral race should be interesting. Both candidates are good choices and I don't care which one wins. I feel like I have a real choice. And a few of the races have requested voluntary spending caps. Those politicians who refuse send a clear message to the public about how they feel on the issue of campaign finance reform. It's good to see. Change may be slow, but it has to start somewhere.

Obama? Romney? Hahahahaha, the joke's on us. They're all pretty much the same on both sides of the aisle. They argue a bit and put on a show, then behind closed doors they smoke cuban cigars and drink fine booze and keep on taking in the dough.

It is during these smoke out hashish sessions that "Obamma" peels off his fake black skinned mask, revealing his true glorious white ivory complexion, and shakes hands with his cousin Rmoney, i mean Romney

The Sheeple of the United States meanwhile naively believe we have a black president

I fucking hate both candidates and I hate how the American people fall for this political bullshit and go ape-shit over every controversy humanly possible to make one candidate or the other look bad when in reality, those issues are just red herrings that politicians use to distract their and opposing constituencies. If they attract any weirdos like them with it, it is just a bonus.

Both parties are terribly one sided and neither give a shit about the American people.

On one hand, you have your Democratic socialists that believe in stripping the rich of their cash and giving it all to the less fortunate, raising taxes on working people (like me) to fund programs that I or my children will probably never get the benefit of using because making 17k a year qualifies me as being an over-privileged white piece of shit, and while I am struggling to make ends meet, they levy more taxes for social programs that I make too much money to touch that are supposed to help "the backbone of America" (the working folks, HA) because there just "isn't enough money" while their party leaders get glorious health care and private jets.

On the other hand, you have your Republican uber-capitalists that believe that the poor only have themselves to blame, no matter the reason why they are poor, and that government funded programs for the welfare of the less fortunate encourage dependency on the system and discourage financial independence, all the while, the CEOs that donate them huge sums of money ship workers over seas making it more and more difficult for even the hardest working of the working poor to find jobs that pay a living wage and they have the AUDACITY to insist that the poor are COMPLETELY to blame for their condition and refuse to even acknowledge the power that their constituents' actions have over the economic situations of millions of Americans.

There has got to be a middle ground, a compromise, etc. but so long as the American people honestly believe that there is only one answer to what is hundreds, even thousands of problems, we will be stuck with these dipshits running for office.

I'll vote green if they have anyone running. Anything is better than this bullshit.

I believe Obama will win. He's ahead in the polls and incumbent candidates tend to have an advantage. I also think his campaign strategy of staying out of political blame games make him come across as a good politician; calm and in control.

I don't think Obama will win with a strong mandate though. Romney is too liberal in terms of his economics and too conservative in terms of his social policy to have a broad appeal, but Obama is unpopular with a lot of the people who voted for him in 2008 because his Keynesian economic strategy was too liberal even for most of the left. He couldn't deliver the change he got voted in on. It isn't a case of a popular, fresh candidate vs. a man from a party everyone was tired of seeing in government like it was in 2008, but an election to see who is the least unpopular.

I don't think Romney will win in the Rust Belt, and I don't think Romney will win in Florida. Unless anything changes, Obama will win with a weak mandate and have another term of mixed successes, and the Republicans will win in 2016.

I don't think Obama or Romney are weak leaders, but I do think Romney doesn't have enough mainstream popularity to win the election.

I can't vote, but I'd probably vote for Obama. I can't bring myself to support a President who is as against abortion and gay marriage as Romney is :/

I used to really love politics (don't ask me why), but I'm tired of it.

Politicians don't represent the people. They represent themselves.
They're pretend to be subservient to their constituents, but that's just to get re-elected (indefinitely I might add) to further their own agendas, pockets and friends.

Here is a walk through of how a "bill" is passed...

"you want me to help you pass this bill? Well, what can you do for me? What have you done for me?"

To get to the point, I'll vote Obama.

  • I don't care enough about either of them to vote for them. However, I do care about other people and issues. So I will vote for those things. As for President I will probably vote for Gary Johnson, just for a laugh and I don't want to press Obama or Romney.
