All or most of the girls in my school LOVE One Direction or Justin Bieber, and I laugh in their faces, regardless of what my parents taught me about respecting the taste of others. Because both the singers in question are so ridiculously feminine looking and sound so girlish. I'm not hating on them but that is genuinely how I think they are. I'm not the type to scream when I hear them sing or turn the tv off when they come on a show but I just think they are SO much like girls and I don't understand the attraction, some might say they're good looking and I'm not saying they're gay or something like that but it seems like girls my age or younger seem to warm to that sort of image more than say....Chris Martin (Lead Singer of a band called Coldplay) who I used to like. I don't hate them (but I wouldn't listen to them more than once a week at most.) I like The Rolling Stones, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance, Slipknot and all that. But looks seems to win more hearts than music (not that all people who like them have the same thought.) but when I put together a survey for college about music taste, and asked the Biebers or the Directioners why they liked them, the first answer was always, "They're SO hot!" and I don't know why this bugs me so much that not one person even mentioned their music first, and if they ever mentioned the songs, they were always a bit vague. I don't know why I think this. IIN?

    You sound a little pretentious, to say the least. I have tons of friends that feel the same way that you do and think that they are somehow special for having your exact taste in music. So yeah, it's normal.

    However, I don't see why people have such an affinity with criticizing men if they wish to look effeminate. Let go of the beliefs of how a typical gender should conduct themselves, it's archaic. You want to be unique and original, do that first. A lot of girls already have.

    By the way, I know a ton of girls that listened to the Rolling Stones back in the day because they thought Mick Jagger was sexy. And a ton of girls back in the day that listened to Guns and Roses because they thought Axel Rose was sexy, and he looked more feminine than I do, and I'm an actual, feminine looking female. This post fails. Go home.

      I was just asking, it's not like I have a vendetta against them. I don't make myself feel special for having that taste in music, it's just because I myself don't know any girl who has that same taste in music, I posted this out of anger because it's always more about image these days.

      As for what you say about girls listening to The Rolling Stones and Guns and Roses back in the day, I KNOW that a lot of girls listened to them because they were sexy, in fact music is quite based on image isn't it? Always was, BUT I was posting this to ask a question about weather my opinion was shared, not to be told that.

        Hey, I answered your question. And then I gave you and opinion, my opinion. I don't see where I am wrong for that. You just can't criticize Bieber fans for liking girly men when the lead singers of the bands that you like pass off as better girls than I could.

        I am stating that you need not be upset about girlies liking music because the singer appeals to their fancy. Just because the genre is different, doesn't mean the principle ain't the same. I could probably list a handful of bands that you listen to that are famous because the lead singers are oh so sexy. It's really not a big deal.

          Sorry, I myself never appealed to the idea of people being famous just because of their looks, if I came off the wrong way I apologize. I feel a bit stupid for just pinning that to pop music but my reason for that was simply because a lot of girls I know have told me they wouldn't go near anyone from the bands I like. I shouldn't of pigeon holed it to JUST pop.

            Well most of them are washed up druggies now. I love rock and even I'd be wary of a few of them. Jagger looks like shit.

              Yeah I agree, it's a reason I just listen to their music now instead of look at photos of them. Purely because even though the music is amazing, it hurts my eyes to see them as they are now.

    It's normal to get a bit angry when people listen to music they don't even appreciate. If it makes them happy though, then let them be happy. I personally don't like the bands you like much, but I wouldn't laugh in your face for it. I know you might not like them for the same reasons the other girls like their favourite bands, but still. Either way, both Bieber and One Direction are pretty appalling musicians. Usually I would refer to people doing what they do as "artists", but they just don't deserve that label.

    Well, one must remember there has been teen idols that are more than fememine for many years. Paul Anka, Frankie Avalon, Ricky Nelson (although I can't blame them for that one), Fabian, Frank Sinatra, David Cassidy, The Jackson Five...the list goes on. It's nothing new. I always found them quite annoying myself, in all honesty, but it's best just to ignore it. It's normal that you're not into that stuff. When I was in high school, we weren't really into that stuff, and you'd find a very small amount of people who were or would at least admit they were.

    Well, it sounds like you have a completely different taste in music. So, of course you're not going to like 1D.I'm a directioner and the people you've talked to aren't real fans. Majority of directioners like them for their music, personality, and so on. Plus, most teens these days in high school are fake and weird.

    Let's be honest, women are used for money by the media all the time, they are suckers like that. They can make a song about fecies, and females would love it just because Bieber sung it. Girls are like the easiest to manipulate and get monet from for media.

    I don't know about men, but from what I have seen, men are more likely to focus on the song they like rather than the person singing it, even if the girl is attractive.

    But hey, what am I saying! Everyone knows men are the only ones and the majority of people that only like things if the person doing them are hot! Shame on me.

    I understand the annoyance. Musicians should be about music first not appearance. I remember when musicians were heard first then seen second. Back when radio wasn't dying. Wait that was only like 5 years ago, right?

      Firstly, I'm a girl. I never said I was alone and I know there are others like me but I don't know such people and I get stupid comments put to me like "She's so old fashioned." I even one time got someone asking me if I was a lesbian, just for my music taste! I put this post out because I myself don't know any other GIRLS who listen to classic rock or metal, even though I know I'm not the only one on the planet who does.
