Am i the only one who feels this way about artists & fame?

So lets see, the world of musicians is problematic if you really but i mean REALLY think about it. I have studied music lovers and musicians themselves so much at this point just being always surrounded by people who bitch about how artists sell out and they were better before when performing at small clubs and such. OK look, I mean what artist doesnt want to get noticed by a BIGGER audience? Isnt their job to expose their worldview to an audience by doing what they love most? I believe them performing at small clubs, concerts, you know the "underground scene that everyone respects the most because they are not mainstream where everyone just likes them after being famous" yah all of that is just the big effort they put out in order to pursue a stronger career as a musician which is what? FAME. So when people say "she was better before being famous", "he totally sold out hahah i hate him now", they are just plain hypocrites. People perform their heart out at small events to get noticed such as a record deals so dont be surprised if a little fame and mainstream comes along in that same package too buddy because you know that all you want is people to hear your talent and view and when it gets out there in the fame, youre a success which is what you want, to be successful at publishing your music and have the whole world hear it. So my point is dont hate on artists when theyre in pop culture and the mainstream just because according to your belief they were better underground. The underground is the path to getting the real deal and people have to realize that, deep inside you know you want everyone to hear what youve got and the underground is not gonna get you anywhere but a good place to start to where you know (some dont know) you want to be-Culture of Fame, Pop, and Mainstream.

simply put, an artist cannot be criticised correctly. if one believes they can criticise an artist correctly, they have either perceived someone who was not an artist, as an artist, or have tried to define an artist.

I understand what you're saying but most just look like tools after they become famous, and generic almost. It becomes about fame rather than the art.

  • You misunderstand the concept of selling out. Selling out is not just getting a larger fan base.

When a band establishes them self in a particular style or genre, then jumps into the mainstream for the sole purpose of gaining more fans, and money, that is selling out. Selling out is when the music stops being about the music and all about the money.

Putting out an album that is not that great does not necessarily count as selling out either. For all you know, that artist could be doing what they really want, but people just didn't like it. That's not selling out, that's just your album not being popular.

By the sounds of things you don't have that great a knowledge of the music world. You sound limited to the Pop music scene (Top 40, Hip Hop, etc). There is nothing wrong with that, but don't try and talk down about musicians in general based on a sorely limited style of music. Pop music is not a good place to look for a wide number of TRULY talented musicians.

Also it sounds like the people you have "studied" (You use that term far to loosely) are very ignorant and have very limited knowledge of the music world. They sound like they are trying to be "hipsters" and hate on anything that is popular.

On the point of you calling people "hypocrites". You really need to learn what words mean before you use them. Saying you don't like someone anymore because they got popular is not hypocritical. Being hypocritical is when, for example, a Toyota owner insults his neighbor for owning a Toyota. Despite your misunderstanding of the word hypocrite I do actually agree with you on this point. It reminds me of some of my friends who decided that they have to hate Twilight because it got popular. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it has to stop being good.

Try moving away from Pop music. Especially if you want to try and talk about mainstream music. There is no music more mainstream than Pop music.

Why is it hypocritical to say someone has sold out? It's only hypocritical if you, yourself, are an artist who has sold out and is then telling another artist they have sold out, while not believing you have done so yourself.

  • The thing is about artist reaching fame is that i dont mind them being famouns but lots of them actually most of them especially female artist become a sex symbol rather than being some one with talent

The problem is, all that kind of music is a bullshit social symbol. Listen to some music which is good for the actual music, like jazz or classical.

The problem is, when they sign with a record company, they lose a lot of control and they obligate themselves to push out albums. Yeah, it's great that they can finally get paid for their talents but at the same time they HAVE to crank out (popular) albums, which can and does ruin bands. In a way they do sell out because of the loss of control over what gets released, the producers cornering them into playing a certain "sound", and th epressure to perform not for themselves/fans as much anymore as for the record label.
