Am i overreacting if i hate parents who give their children false hope?

To sum it up basically I dislike parents who tell their children something to a point where they are led to false dreams/hopes, it's no wonder that the parents themselves become the deluded ones as in they are the reasons how they, the children can't see the reality which is also the primary reason how children cling onto false hopes.

Me too, bro. "You can be anything, Timmy"! No you can't, Timmy. Your IQ is 78 and your grades reflect it.

That's nonsense. IQ doesn't even exist and intelligence can always improve over time if someone wanted it to. If they're disabled then that's different though

Iq does exist and provably can’t be raised by more than a couple of points.

It can drop dramatically due to brain injuries and whatnot, but no person can raise it to a noticeable degree.

        Not opinion, fact.

My parents didn’t bother with false hope, I sucked shit at school and everyone knew. My siblings were absolute super geniuses so that really made the difference that much greater lol

My dad eventually just said “school isn’t for you” and brought me on all of his business trips back and forth to Boston instead. Really think it was for the better, I wasn’t going to learn that shit at that time. I would’ve killed myself over it if I continued at the amount of effort I tried to keep up

My wife is an Einstein type so it cancels out my monkey brain

I was an aspiring artist because everyone of my family saw I was above average. So they just played along until I was in late highschool with no actual career path besides art and when I realized I was never going to be an above average artist I was left adrift. Then the military sorted out some of that chaos and I'm doing quite fine.

It depends. Telling your epileptic child that you're going to call the pilot school and make them stop being mean and take you is obviously fucking stupid. But... encouraging them to have high expectations for their future is a good thing. You'd be amazed at how much a fairly average person is capable of achieving if they put the graft in and get passionate about something.

However it does require your kid to actually put the work in. For example if you have an aspiring doctor, telling your unmotivated dreamy kid that they're going to get into medical school when they can't even be bothered to do their homework and are failing biology, is pretty dumb. Telling them that they COULD get into medical school IF they worked hard enough is a better strategy.

Also some kids don't want a high pressure lifestyle at all. They want the basics out of life. That's totally fine too, as long as they are happy.

Depends if you're saying you can do anything you set your mind to, that's important because it helps push them to achieve their dreams

Participation trophy kids will destroy the world but I fully intend to tell my future children that they are better than absolutely everyone else and they should act as so. Everyone else will think they’re absolute assholes but they’ll have that strength and confidence with them their whole lives and will probably be much more successful for it.

I need some kind of example

    • For e.g. If the parents tell the child that they can be successful in a career but when they grow up the other person tells them that they can't be in that specific career because it isn't for them.

Another reason why I hate it is because it causes mass confusion when given false hopes.

Its possible that the other person that told you the career isnt for you is wrong. People can be assholes.
