Am i missing something? or...

I've been married to my wife for almost 2 years. I am a musician who has written and recorded songs (a few years ago) before I met my wife that I have stored at home. My wife wants me to erase/discard these songs from the past because they were written about relationships of that particular time. I don't play them much especially around her. Do I have the right to keep my music or should I trash them? Is it normal for her to react this way?

I agree with dappled. Don't through it away, once it's gone it's gone forever. Make her a song and keep the other ones elsewhere. I personally would never make my partner get rid of such things but that just me

No disrespect, but your wife's a real bitch.

Well obviously music is more important to you than your wife's feelings. Dump your wife and work on your music. Or make a song for her, work on the technical aspect of that , record and play it for her. Yes... Obviously you are missing something...

Thanks for validating the art aspect lamor. My only reason to keep the music is the technical quality. For the record, I am not trying to reminisce about an ex.

You shouldn't destroy the music because it's never justified to destroy art, but you certainly shouldn't play them around her or perhaps you should record them and then never play them again.

Do you love your wife or your failed music career??? If it bothers her you know that she obviously really loves you. Why would you want to hurt her?

obviously music is your passion and that is the reason why you are keeping those old songs. just explain to her that you only want them for artistic purposes and if she still doesn't understand then.. well.. hide them..

You have a right to your past. And she, of course, has a right to feel threatened by such obviously evocative reminders of other girls. Is there a compromise? Maybe for you to retain them, but not in your own home?
