Allergies situation
Would you adopt an adorable pet if you knew that you were allergic to it yet the sheer adorableness of the animal would bring you joy and happiness?
What would make you say yes and what would make you say no?

If I want a cute little animal all The sneezing and swelled up sinuses in thw world couldn't stop me from keeping that adorable little fucker
I'm already a little allergic to cats. I take allergy medicine on a daily basis, but I'm also allergic to house dust and ragweed so it's whatever. I've probably developed a tolerance or immunity to my own Siamese cat, Andrew, but I also give him baths and he's a posh indoor kitty. I do tend to have problems when I visit the kitties at the NSPCA, but I still visit them on occasion, because I love them. I think I would have a much easier time visiting them if they were given baths as dogs are. Ideally I would like to start getting allergy shots if I could possibly afford them.
I take a generic form of Zyrtec as well as prescription Flonase. The thing that irritates my allergies most is probably dust and pollen in the dry desert air.
I would never give up my kitty, he's totally worth it!
Normal to want to, but if I were you I'd be considering the longterm health effects. If your allergies lead to asthma you need to be aware that long term asthma with frequent attacks can lead to COPD later in life and take my word for it, you won't like it.
I know someone with COPD from asthma who has a long haired cat and a long haired dog and I don't get it
I was born into a house that had many cats and eventually dogs too but recently found out that i'm deathly to both cats and dogs (along with trees grass and mold). I'm not quite sure what to call it but I guess i have reverse asthma. Instead of my lung airways swelling up making it hard to breathe, my sinuses swell up to the point where I can only breathe through my mouth...
I wouldn't subject myself to health effects if I can avoid it . I wouldn't mind short encounters but I would just get a pet I am not allergic to.
After watching a few asthma sufferers I don't think I'd voluntarily put myself through that for any pet. There's got to be some other pet that one isn't allergic to.
What does your doctor call it? Sounds like mutiple allergies to me and I've never heard of "reverse asthma" and I don't understand how there could be such a thing
I made up reverse asthma as a way to describe me not being able to breathe through my nose.... Im currently getting allergy shots but i still have major (non asthma) breathing problems... Im supposed to be using multiple nasal sprays but my insurance wont cover the only ones that work together.
No, of course not! I WANT to get shots, because allergies bring misery into my life and I would LOVE to volunteer at a cat shelter. I get multiple sinus infections and bouts with bronchitis every year in this desert Hell hole, and would love to feel better. The only reason I'm here is because this is where my family settled, although I can't imagine why. I was never sick like this when I lived in Mississippi!
When I die I hope God gives me time off in Purgatory for the years I've spent here in the desert!
P.S. Sorry for the rant, but Sin City can be Hell.
