All bathrooms unisex bathrooms?

I was reading some comments on here and someone posed an opinion that all bathrooms should be made for both male and female to use instead of having separate facilities.

So that got me curious, what do the people of the internet think about this idea? Should all public bathrooms be unisex bathrooms?

Do you think it's a good idea or bad idea?

If they are unisex you may end up with would-be-rapists waiting in the stalls.

Because a wouldbe rapist couldn't just wait until nobody is looking and slip into the ladies room...

If anything, I think a unisex restroom might be safer due to increased traffic.

Peeping toms could be a little be more likely concern though.

    • This is what I was thinking when I first heard of the idea.

If bathrooms weren't separate, men would find out the horrible truth about women much earlier in life.... that they indeed do fart.

That would make me really uncomfortable
I don't want to enter a public bathroom at the same time as a 40 year old man that's just weird

All public bathrooms can be unisex, idc. Either way the stalls should have more privacy like a little room with a toilet and common sinks etc.

I think that unisex bathrooms would be a good idea, although there would be a period of adjustment before everyone would be comfortable with the arrangement. It works in other countries, and could work here in the U.S. It sure would be helpful to parents who have opposite gender children.

Many males grow up with less privacy in the bathroom than females. As a kid, if I needed to pee and mom or sis were in the bathroom using the sink or the bathtub, they would tell me to come in and pee. There was only one bathroom in our home, and we shared it when we needed to. Hence, if all bathrooms became unisex overnight, it wouldn't be too hard for guys to adapt. It would be more of an adjustment for females.

I was at Disneyland back in the '90s and had to use the men's room. I walked up to the closest urinal, unzipped, and began to pee. Just as I released my pee stream, a foreign man walked in with his daughter who was about 9 or 10. He took the urinal right next to me with his daughter standing between us (no dividers). I was surprised at first that he didn't use one of the other urinals to give each of us some space, but figured if they were okay with that arrangement so was I. The girl seemed fascinated to watch both of us pee. Afterward, I thought that it really wasn't a big deal to pee with her right next to me.

Since then, there have been multiple times that I was using a urinal and dad walks in with his daughter. I just ignore them and do what I need to do. Once at a rest stop on the interstate, I walked into a men's room and dad was using a urinal with his daughter standing next to him. I had to pee, and there was only one other urinal (no dividers). I used the other urinal anyway, and neither of them seemed to care. There have been occasions when I'm at a bar that women will come into the men's room to use the stall while I'm peeing at the urinal. I've become used to it and don't mind them being there. There have been many instances where the men's room door has been propped open and the guys using the urinal are visible from outside. It's really not a big deal if other people look in and see me peeing. Everyone does it.

When we traveled to Europe 3 years ago, there were quite a few unisex bathrooms. Some were arranged that the sinks were adjacent to the urinals. It's the norm there, so I did not feel weird to walk up to the urinal next to a mom and her daughter at the sink and pee. They did not take any notice of me at all, and we did what we needed to do.

I wouldn't care in the least if all bathrooms turned unisex overnight. It might be a bit awkward at work, but eventually everyone would get used to it. No big deal!

Unisex toilets sound like a great idea! Why pay for expensive clubs when you could get a friends to bring a music player and another friend to bring a suitcase full of liquor and hey presto! Instant club with no door fee.

You could also get a friend to cover the light with colored paper and then flick the light switch on and off to the music for an authentic club feel.

  • I have, like, the best for bathrooms ever.

Ok, bare with me on this, it's very complex.

If you have a penis, alright now stay with me on this, you go to the bathroom with the urinals.

Ok, now this is where it gets tricky. If you don't have a penis, altight now let me finish, you go to the bathroom with the stalls.

Boom! Problem solved. I can't believe society hasn't thought of this idea before....

I really don't wanna see a turd in the urinal.

      • Who the hell does a turd in public restrooms anyway? That's like the #1 rule of public restrooms. >_>

Well you did say the stalls were for the nonpenis people and the bathrooms with urinals were for penis people. If there are no stalls for penis-people, where do they dump?

          • Female restrooms usually have twice as many stalls than the male one for obvious reasons. This doesn't mean there are no stalls for the male ones but there are very few because people rarely use them to do a #2 and the female ones have more because women need to sit while going #1. Ergo, people needing to sit to go #1 use te female restrooms.

It's not that hard to grasp. >_>

When I was in Yokosuka Japan in the USNavy, I realized very quickly while using restroom in a bar, they are all unisex over there. Freaked me the hell out seeing woman come in and squatting. But hell we all have to go sometime, no big deal to me now. As for where someone said something about sexual predators, theres not much to keep them out of ladies rooms now if they are wanting in there bad enough, just need to be devious enough.

All bathrooms should be one stall, unisex and accessible. Separating people by gender is old fashioned because we now know how complicated gender and sexuality really is. No one, especially gay/trans people, should be forced to stand at a urinal or defecate in a stall that's not sound proof that people could peak into. Every bathroom should be a lockable, sound-proof room with a toilet, sink, change table, handbar, etc. There should be rows of these individual rooms not one room with individual metal stalls with cracks between the doors. Some stores and restaurants already have it set up like this. They're ahead of their time. Actually, I'm also against mirrors above sinks, because in some cultures vanity is frowned upon, and some people don't like to have to avoid seeing themselves under the fluorescent lights every time they wash their hands.

Often when there is a line-up at a girls' bathroom, the girls just waltz into the guys' bathroom, usually giggling. It's pretty hypocritical because the pepper spray would be out if a guy walked into a girls' bathroom. It's like men don't deserve privacy.

It's not that I'm against certain genders such as agender or genderfluids being more comfortable in a mixed environment but it's just not a comfortable idea to me. I think having both unisex bathrooms and male and female bathrooms would be fine. In fact I would love unisex bathrooms for families to use instead.

I get uncomfortable when I see a little boy in the women's bathroom with his mom let alone an older man or even another boy my age.

What about, for example, gay men who'd probably feel MUCH more comfortable with the girls and not the guys. Imagine having to share a bathroom with the sex you're attracted to?

Yes, perverted people, we know you'd LOVE it...

Sincere the stalls are private, I don't see much problem there, but they'd probably have put some kind of divider in front of the urinals.

mm I think unisex loo,s would be good for me as it would give me access to the sanitary bins and I could load up with freshly used tampons and liners, please do it.

    • Usually there is a bin for that stuff in the bathroom stall. We'll at least in the bathrooms I've been in they did.

I think men should have more stalls and no urinals. I mean cant a guy learn to aim his thing by the time hes grown up?
