Alcohol cured my depression, normal?

Is it possible that alcohol in moderation can cure chronic depression? People constantly overreact and repeat the same crap that's been drilled into their heads by the media, that no matter what, you're an alcoholic. They can't even define what an alcoholic really is.

Anyway, I was really messed up and depressed for a month, I finally had a few drinks, slept great (much longer than I usually do) and felt normal again. I didn't need a drink the next few days either. Just the one night of drinking got my head straight again.

I've been to hospital suffering severe alcohol withdrawal, I know what the definition of an alcoholic is.

Hey, you know what worked for you!!!

Could be, you weren't actually "depressed"! Depression is a term that gets "thrown around" so much.

Could be that you were just stressed out, working too hard! You need to get out, have some fun every now and then!!!

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

Alcohol is usually a depressant. You cannot drown your sorrows.

I think what you're talking about is generally referred to as self medicating.
