that reminds me of the george harrison song The inner light
without going out my door
I can know all things on earth
without looking out my window
I can know the ways of heaven
Well yes and no. As a traveler and nomad myself, I could not fathom life without physical travel. Hence I'm always choosing teleportation in any poll that offers it, in the hopes I might be granted that ability eventually.
That having been said, I'm brought to the distinction between a traveler and a tourist. The later visits places, photographs themself with monuments, ticks boxes on a checklist, and goes back to their everyday life; now a traveler, on the other end of this spectrum, starts the journey as he leaves his origin point. He does so because of his ability to think the world he sees. Ever notice that so many writers and interesting thinkers had/have travel logs/notebooks/books? From the top of my head I thought of Albert Camus, Marco Polo and Lévi-Strauss, whose work IS basically a detailed, in-depth travel log.
Aside from all that, which was intended to not dismiss completely physical travel, if anyone is even reading this, I do believe we can travel to an infinity of places with our minds. Especially interesting I find it to go to surreal and magical universes that we cannot actually visit. Also going back and forth with ideas and words. So you see, they serve different purposes. Therefore, I cannot simply agree thinking is the best way to travel.
Well... Thank you for posting this and allowing me to travel some.
I agree with this 100% because there is no limit to the places my imagination has taken me. (This is why I have decided to be a writer;))
Yes, because you don't get strip-searched by the TSA when you think. Although, I guess that guy up there decided to take his clothes off anyway.
I disagree. I've traveled to places that my mind alone couldn't get me to.
And I've traveled to places that neither body nor craft could get me to.
yes thats the point...!!! they actually mean that may be traveling can take us to mny places but not every where not to the dream land not to the heavens not up the skies not to garden full of only red roses where there is no one but you and your imagined hero..... not to a place where you are called princess where you are loved by all ... not to a place that is created by you within your heart the beautiful of alll..... imagination is the real power and wow a beautiful reality....!!!
you can imagine going to places you whant to visit!!!
all you need is:
-strong imagination
-some time to kill
-some peace and quiet
and you can travel anywere you want for free, the perfect credit-crunch friendly whay to travel!!
This reminds me of something I heard while watching TMZ a few weeks ago..the wife of the doctor who's in jail for killing Michael Jackson said that he (Conrad Murray) "escapes" prison through books. She phrased it in a really absurd way that made it sound like he physically leaves the jail anytime he wants.
I don't think it's the best way, but i think it's a very good way to travel. My mind can take me anywhere i want to go, but there is nothing like physically traveling.. Except maybe astral projection, but i haven't achieved that yet.
..? Of course, you have to think about the little deatails when traveling but other than that what else is there to think about? Sometimes just cruising aimlessly is so much more fun. It gets me to places I've never been. The only sucky part to it is I dont know how to get back home sometimes. :/ Maybe thinking is the best way to travel but sometimes common sense just feels like non-sense. Unless there is a greater meaning to what you mean "travel." Today I dont feel like looking deeper, I hope this quote isn't ambigious.
Thinking is a way to travel but not the best way you need the actual practical experience not just thought you can only go so far, you need to look outside of yourself then come back with your horizons broadened
