Afraid of intimacy with women wearing make-up

So, I have had this problem for a while now. Every time a woman with make-up on tries to get intimate with me, I begin to have an anxiety attack. This can sometimes be a big problem since my girlfriend is an actress and wears make-up often. I'm not merely talking about attraction either. True, I think a woman is more attractive when she does not wear make-up at all, but when a woman with lipstick or blush or something tries to say, kiss me, I begin to freak out. My girlfriend really likes this about me because she appreciates that I like her for who she truly is, but I've never encountered anyone else with this problem. Is it normal to feel this way or should I be talking to a shrink about possible childhood traumas that may have resulted in my make-up aversion?

It doesn't matter what *we* think is normal, what matters is if this is normal to you. If this is truly something that's disrupting your life and you want to change it, then you should explore "why" you feel this way. I was a counselor myself, and I've heard many stories similar to this. I met a boy who told me that he needed to wash his hands every single time he touched his shoes. And another woman who didn't want to even *touch* paper because she was always afraid she would get a paper cut.

All of these problems have logical pros and cons. For example, shoes are dirty. More people probably *should* wash their hands after touching them, but the boy I met did it compulsively. He would not be able to do any of the simplest of tasks until he washed his hands after touching his shoes. You couldn't get him to concentrate on anything else or even sit still. And the women afraid of paper cuts; yes, paper cuts are painful. But to not pick up paper? With the society we live in, she'll always need to touch paper. She used to put on gloves every time she touched paper, which for her wasn't much of a burden. She made it normal to her daily life. She always has some fancy gloves with her, and would incorporate them into her lifestyle. So some cases are too much of a nuisance, and some problems you learn to adapt to without too much time being lost.

As for you touching someone's face covered in make-up, well logically make-up is really bad for your skin. It clogs many pores and can cause acne, blackheads, whiteheads, etc. However, many men and women put make up on their faces every single day, yet they still manage to there skin clean, healthy, and very appealing. It's just takes them little more time care for their skin though. They use entire sets of facial scrubs every night, use organic make-up, etc. There's absolute logic in that you don't want people making your face dirty. That's totally normal, but if you begin to act how this boy was with his shoes, or like this woman was with paper- being so afraid of make-up touching your face that it disrupts your life, than yes, pursue counseling. And just remember to yourself, what *is* normal anyway?

Maybe ask your gf if she would consider not wearing make up? Or does she not wear make up already? If you do prefer the natural look.

If it bothers you that much that you "freak out" then I think you should see a counsellor or something. Then at least you can try and pinpoint why you feel that way.

Make up is gross, I always think women are trying to hide something when wearing it... it's disgusting. Especially those girls who wear too much make up... nasty.

I don't think they're trying to hide more than a guy who puts on a fancy suit. Most women wear make-up. As long as a girl doesn't go all Ronald McDonald on her face, I fail to see the problem.
