Adults should carry guns in public places for safety.

Adults who pass a psychological evaluation and a course on handling guns safely should be allowed to carry guns with them in public places. Why? Because the innocent are often victims because they are defenseless. If more people carried registered guns, criminals would think twice and be stopped.

I'm a gun owner myself with years of experience and training. My guns are 100% legal, I am a good shot and can take them apart and put them back together within about 60 seconds. I seriously do believe that if I was allowed to keep at least a small .38 with me, I would be a decent match for a shooter given that I do have combat training and all of that fuckery.

That said, if the public doesn't feel safe with me carrying around a pistol then ok, they don't feel safe. I do not believe that my personally owning a gun is part of the problem, I see the issue of mass shootings as far more complex than gun ownership and I know personally many people who have gotten guns from other countries illegally in parts. They're not special people with black market connections, just a guy who knows a guy.

No because even if 100% of those people were combat trained and cool headed marksmen the chance that some one would misfire, snap in the pressure, or accidently shoot themselves in the foot would increase because a slip of paper saying you're sane for now isn't going to guarantee that person is 100% on point with their gun 100% of the time. Even then I don't want them to shoot a douchebag for stealing a packet of gum or feeling up some lady's bum in the line. There's no crime out there I'd say deserves instant execution and if you think there is....you shouldn't be carrying a gun. Even if you're not aiming to kill whomever's at the barrel of your gun why own one in that case? Why not use non-lethal force instead of carrying a tool for insta-death on your belt? Sure Guns don't kill people people kill people whatever. Gun's weren't built for growin' flowers is all I have to say to that. We as a culture should focus more on what causes people to act criminally and work there instead of playing whack a mole. This ain't Call of Duty you're not getting points for shooting the other team.

If you shoot someone for stealing a pack of gum or feeling up a women's ass you will go to jail. In my state you are required to take a course and learn the laws and reponsibilities regarding concealed carry of a firearm.

I certainly would hope so. Those were...eeeh slightly exaggerated anecdotes for the sake of argument, but thank you for the information. Never turn down a chance for learning something :3

I carry a .38 special H&K around for protection but don't have a "permit". Besides, I don't do stupid shit to give a cop any reason to search me let alone if caught without a license and the fine is relatively small and when paid you'll get your piece back.

The fine isn't large enough in my state to make me " register" a gun which in itself something I'd never do anyways.

I very know the present law very well. That doesn't mean it will remain so if everybody begins carrying guns, does it?
Think of how easy it would be to get lots of free guns if everybody had to leave their guns in their car when they went into a bar?

Given the situation in the USA it sounds like it might be a good idea.

But I wonder... has anyone who just happened to be carrying a gun ever managed to stop some crazy from committing something crazy like the events that happened recently in San B?

Will USA get to the point where practically every citizen carries one all the time?

Almost all mass shootings take place in gun-free zones like malls, theaters, concerts, schools, and nightclubs where the shooter knows that nobody can fight back. That's why they choose those locations.

While many shootings absolutely have been stopped by people carrying, keep in mind that most take place in areas where people can't legally carry, making defensive uses look rare.

I believe there was a special forces trained guy at one of the recent shooting scenes and he did not get involved. I don't remember if he was armed or not, but in the interview he stated he wouldn't have become involved even if armed because he could not determine exactly who was the bad guy, with everybody running around in a panic.
Good point. What if one of the shooters was an undercover cop trying to do his job?
We all think we know how we would act in various situations, but the truth is until that instant, we don't. Even a trained combat veteran is not prepared for an urban civilian situation. We can't just go around shooting whomever we think might be the bad guy(s).
