Adhd, as, ocd, bi-polar, anxiety syndrome...?

Would someone please explain to me why this site is littered with so many people who want / need labels for their behaviour? It's really starting to bore me! I don't really care if you've been diagnosed or not. Lawyers always say 'follow the money if you want the answer' so ....

I get money / extra benefits from the government. 4
I get drugs that I can sell. 2
I love the feeling the drugs give me. 3
I can use it as an excuse to behave as I want. 4
I get more time in exams if I've a disability. 3
I like to get sympathy. 4
Other. Please explain! 15
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

You sound very resentful. I don't understand why your poll didn't have the answer: "I have a genuine condition which I have long struggled with, and to be finally diagnosed (labelled) and treated is a huge relief".

You might as well chuck schizophrenics and those with psychosis into your grab-bag of "made up" illnesses too because, patently, if you can't physically see an illness, it doesn't exist for anything other than the purposes of fraudulence.

  • I didn't come here to share my life story or get pity or whatever it is you might think. Yes, I've been diagnosed but it's not like I WANTED to be mentally ill.

I'd of quite liked the opposite, much preferred it honestly. I don't want to have to take Fluoxetine just so that my emotions are on a stable level. I don't want to be scared when someone knocks on the door.

You are the one who needs help if you think that people WANT to be ill or flaunt it.

People are obsessed with labels. And some people want to explain their behavior in a manner that others can understand. We all just want to be understood. The lables help for the most part, it communicates thought processes in a way that gives more potential for clear understanding. Yes, it is abused, but what isn't?

  • I fully understand mental illness, having suffered myself. However, it seems strange that people would come onto a site to ask what is normal when all the replies seem to come from people with every so called condition known to man.

I just believe that people are all different and are entitled to their own little odd ways. However, a few doctors told me that if they give a patient a label then they're practically 'cured'. As dappled said, they feel a huge relief.

I'm not saying that people WANT to be ill but all these so-called experts obviously want us to be. We are keeping them employed and they are making their money from acquiring patients. A teacher told me recently that there is a scale for how autistic we are and everyone is apparently on it somewhere. I just think that psychologists and psychiatrists are too quick too label us all, and wonder how on earth previous generations managed to cope without this explosion of insecurity.

You know some people are really with some of these issues right? Also yes though I think most of the time these doctors just abuse their powers considering how often some of this stuff is misdiagnoses such as (ADD/ADHD) if that's really a legitimate issue.

its because companies make money selling drugs,so we dont legalize and make available marijuana because that would cut profits

So do you think we should legalize everything? Crack too? I think some stuff was banned for a reason.

The harder crack is to find the worse crackheads will hurt themselves trying to get it...y not jus let them buy crack in a safe envirnment and generate some revenue at the same time....give them a crack card....and u cant have a drivers liscence if you have a crack card

People on such drugs often develop and display schizophrenic behaviour after an amount of time. When someone is schizophrenic they sometimes are not aware of what is going on around them.

They sometimes have hallucinations and see thing that are not really there. Generally people with things like that are medicated to prevent those episodes from happening.

Yet crack is often the cause for these episodes and the deteriorating mental health of the person taking it. So you really do not see an issue with people having such episodes? Its dangerous to themselves and other and that is not a good thing.

So you think we should encourage people to destroy there mental health so badly? Are you insane? So you really do not care if this person kills themselves or randomly kills someone else? You think that is a good thing and we should allow this type of shit to happen? You are one seriously fucked up person if you believe that.

You are one seriously fucked up person if you think our system of anybody being able to sell crack is ok....you think a crack dealer cares if u have schizophrenia?at least a legal dealer would give a fuck about such things..we could shut that system down overnight...make it impossible for selling crack "illegaly" to be profitable...the amount of crack on the streets would drop significantly...just like after every time we legalized any substance....god people act like if we put crack on the shelves everybody is magically gonna turn into a crackhead...remember when they legalized weed in washington?...remember what happened to the crime rate....of course u dont

Lol wtf is wrong with you? Not to say that ADHD is as bad a cancer but u don't bitch about someone with cancer in a wheel chair using it as an excuse not to have to do things or act differently in any way. They are legitimate medical diagnoses. Granted, They don't give u license to be jackass or annoying as hell or do messed up things.

Someone is clearly in support of ATOS and Unum....

try having to be 'trained' for years and years how to socialise, interact and function in this world because the ways that works best for you are clearly not what works best for blending into mainstream society; the exhaustion and pressure of trying to pass as "normal" to the point where you self-medicate in various manners; and people shunning you, mocking you and excluding you all because of your brain chemistry!

You try being damned if you declare yourself on the autistic spectrum (And don't even get a chance in 99.9% of job interviews) and damned if you don't (Which more often than not leads to you being fired from whatever job you DO get because you apparently lied)!

    Just you fucking try.

P.S. Dappled for the win. Forever. 4SRS.

Labels are simply used to classify things. It's to help better understand things. I don't know why people have such problems with labels. It's just a fucking word. Most people are afraid of the unknown and feel comfort in knowing.

Dr's. are all over the map when it comes to diagnoses. The best and only way determine if you do infect have a disorder is to educate and read up on a subject, and I don't mean the little pamplets with the quiz from the drug manufactures. I'm ADHD 100%... but I've had many say I'm not... Based on what?? Their own perception of me in an hour? The soul knows! I have read 4 Adults with ADHD books, read hundreds of threads in forums and there is no doubt in my mind. Relieved and now taking action to work with my brain instead of agsinst it. You must, must research every drug you are prescribed, preferably in forums, not the manufacturers website. They will prescribe you anything today. People with ADD usually suffer from anxiety as well, but give an ADHD/ADD anti anxiety medication and it can make your ADD intolerable. I can go on forever with this topic...

Try the psychrytrist who office you walk into for 5 minutes and he writes you a paper for some pills. Yes I am positive you can figure out that someone has in under 5 minutes of speaking to them. "Hello how are you. I think you have OCD".

    So let me understand this:

You want a label for people who may (or may not) want a label for themselves?
