Absolutely abhor my family

I'm 28 now, an adult. Yet, I have these horrid feelings of wanting to kill my family (not literally - yes, that would be an obvious problem even I would recognize) whenever they even speak!

I had good education, grew up in a regular old household, but I've had these feelings of "hating my family" since I was a teenager. When I looked it up in books and such, I thought it was just my teenage-ness going out of control and expected to mature sooner or later.

I'm still acting/feeling like a bratty kid, throwing tantrums whenever I am displeased. I really can't help it! I completely despise them!

I'm a lawyer so I'll admit that I have this "thing", when I turn people's words around against them without even my realising it (it's sort of stuck with me). However, the way they speak, the way they say such ridiculously stupid things annoys the freaking heck out of me!

Is this normal?????

  • Yeah I agree with lulu rocket above post. You are probably more intelligent than some of them, and they annoy you, but eventually you should at least have a cordial situation where you see them once in a while

As long as you have some close friends outside your family, then yes it is normal.

As the saying goes, you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family. I think it's totally normal that they drive you nuts.

  • Usually you hate the qualities in other people that are reflected in yourself. If you can figure out specifically what you hate about your family, you can make an active effort to remove these qualities from yourself. When you are able to pity people you once hated, you have removed the negative qualities from yourself. (Sorry to sound so 'zen') And no more tantrums.

theres obviously a underlying reason why you dont like your family i mean i hate my family sometimes but heres the thing when you get mad at someone its because you see something in them that you don't like about yourself which could explain alot because well you grew up with them and spend lots of time with them i assume and either your personality rubs off on them or vise versa these are just my theories but give it some thought

If it isn't normal, then at least I join you in your abnormality and you're not alone. :)

I think it's normal not to get on with your family, I feel the same about most of mine. Your reasons seem a little stupid (being annoyed by the way they speak is probably more down to your own irritability than anything else) but we can't help the way we feel about things like this I suppose. Just avoid them as much as possible, and hope that the less time you spend with them the more you'll be able to tolerate them.
But throwing tantrums when you're annoyed at 28?! No offence man, but you seriously need to get a grip. You weren't clear whether it was just with your family or not, but it's something you need to sort out either way.
