A stable popolation is a healthy population.

If our population had a stable birthrate of 2 kids in every country, our numbers would stabilize. A population that is stable is a healthy, happy, and successful one. But alas, we humans will continue breeding ourselves into utter oblivion because "OMG, BAYBEES ARE GOD! I MUST HAVE THEM!" and "MUST OVERFLOOD THE GENE POOL WITH LARGE FAMILIES OF 3 OR MORE KYDS!" Not to mention "BUT IT'S MY "right" TO HAVE AS MANY CHILDREN AS I WANT! WAHHH!"/s

....We probably deserve to go extinct. We're no better than your average cockroach. Thanks a lot, guys. We couldn't have reached our inevitable doom without you. For those of us who don't have kids or only had one or two for replacement (as well as the future parents of only 1 or 2 kids), thank you. I'm glad some people have common sense and intellect. It's a damn shame that all of us will suffer due to the actions of the less intelligent. :(

I see this pop up here every now and again. The world is not overpopulated, not even close. There are finite resources like oil that may run low in a given time, but they are required to sustain a way of life, not life itself. There are places in this world where food is scarce, but there are also places in the world where food is so abundant that mass amounts are thrown away. The same can be said for fresh water. This has nothing to do with overpopulation, and everything to to with economics and poverty. There are parts of the world that are overcrowded, but there are also parts that are practically abandoned. People choosing to live in overcrowded areas again is more about a way of life, than it is about sustaining life. I am sure someone will come along to tell me how blind I am. But the cry of overpopulation has been going on for hundreds of years. The dates that supposed experts say we will all run out of food and die keep passing without issue and getting moved up. It is a big planet, that doesn't mean we should abuse it, but it can sustain a lot more life than you might think.

It'll never come to that. Nature has been practicing. An Ebola outbreak here, a swine flu outbreak there. One of these days she'll get it right and rid the world of these irreverent, destructive creatures with no respect for anything but making money and a passion for creating waste.

I think the real threat is corporations pillaging the planet. It's not like there's not enough food for everyone, we just can't organize ourselves to feed everyone because the system isn't set up that way, it's based around profit and greed.
Anyway, I don't know if overpopulation is really that big a problem. Even so, I don't think most people think enough before having kids.
