A question on the subject of names.

I am greatly interested in Botany and Astronomy and it made me wonder why more people don't name their children after things in these fields. I think there are many beautiful and wonderful words to be found in these subjects. Of course, there are some things in these fields that would make for terrible names like, "Mugwart" or "Cetus", but for the most part, picking a name from these fields would certainly be better then some of the horrible made up "modern" names that some people have chosen for their children. Names like, "Traylor", "Vagina", "Shithead", "Talula Does The Hula", "Chlamydia", (etc.) Seriously, what were these parents thinking?! Also, when I say words in Botany, I don't mean hippy names like "Tree", I am referring to the common names of plants. For example, "Rose", "Sakura", "Kaede", "Cedar", etc.

Is this normal?

Yeah, Ceres would be a cool name and that doubles for astronomy and mythology.

I prefer the Roman goddess pronunciation of "KEER-eez" over the way the dwarf planet's name is said. That way it doesn't sound like "series".

I would never name my child Ceres because it's a fruit juice brand. :D

Fuck. I forgot about that one. Very unfortunate, indeed.
