Protect the innocent man

Just because there's a mob doesn't mean they should get their way.

It depends of the magnitude of the violence. If it is only a small mob of little more than 100 rioters, I'd protect the innocent man. If it was a full scale uprising, with armed militants shooting civilians, I'd let them kill the innocent man.

It also depends if the mob is an organised gang with a name and a leader, or a spontaneous protest. If it was organised, I would never give in to the demands for fear of setting a precedent and perhaps encouraging future similar violence. If it was spontaneous I'd be more likely to give in, because no precendent would be set.

In reality I would probably mind my own business and stay out of it.

So basically you are putting me in the place of Pontius Pilate.

Protect the innocent man and then keep them from destroying more innocence.

Protect the innocent and condemn the rest. If they are willing to destroy the innocent, they should be punished as guilty.

Well many of you sound really brave, but when there's actually a violent mob they might turn against those who stand up for the "condemned man".
I've seen a lot of mob violence video's, usually of people in rural towns who want to lynch a criminal, and as brutal as they execute them, nobody ever stands up for them, out of fear of being attacked themselves.
And even if the person is innocent, if the mob was determined to kill him they would just outnumber you, and either attack you as well or just take you away from the scene.
It's of course easy to say you would step up though, living in a society where this would never happen and where the police would intervene.

You keep them from escalating the situation by stopping them from killing the guy. The question really isn't framed right. If you can't stop them from killing one guy, why would you be able to stop them in the future? In a mob situation there is no later, get a handle on it while you can, if you can.

If I was able to, id protect the innocent man. I don't believe in giving into demands anyway lol

I'd help to hide the innocent man until anger dissipated and he could have a fair hearing.
