A fire is about to burn down your house, what do you do?

So, I saw a fire on the news and how some people only had about a 10 minute warning to evacuate, and I though to myself, "Wow. I think I'd panic in a situation like that."
So, the question is, how would you react if you only had 10 minutes to evacuate from a raging wildfire (assume for a second that you live in the woods)? Also, if you could, please include what you would pack.

I would panic and forget to take a whole bunch of essentials. 13
I'd calmly assess the situation and act accordingly and logically. 32
I'd drive out of there without taking anything. 8
I'd stay in my house and try to fireproof everything. 9

I'd stay in my room with all my stuffed animals. A captain dies with their ship. Not sure if I'd bring my cat with me, she's a bit old and we could die together, or she could live without me to love her.

Tape my kitty into her emptied toilet(no cat carrier at the moment), fetch the documents, cash, and money-related stuff(conveniently all located in the same cabinet) into handbag, some mementos into another bag(mementos all located at one location), the most expensive light articles(laptop, PS3, digital camera, ...) into my rucksack.
IF still time, put other expensive stuff into the bathtub(separate bathroom, very little burnable stuff), then run with aforementioned stuff.
There are regular fire-alarm-tests around her, we once "tried" for fun to take part in one. 10 minutes is actually a long time, even if you leave a safety buffer, _IF_ you have the important stuff centrally located.

I would take my phone, wallet and computer (there's no way insurance is going to pay for all the hardware).

Cats, artwork, computer and camera. Maybe a few mementos and important things. It would kill me to have to leave my books, but there wouldn't be enough time </3

I'd drink a bunch of water and put the fire out by urination.

You need to work out several escape routs from different rooms, and remember them well, as one day it could be your house. Good luck.

  • Probably hide the lighter...

In all seriousness, I wouldn't me extremely shocked, I've been around quite a few building fires, and in a few. I believe my family would be able to handle themseles, get them selves to safety, etc. Maybe my oldest brother will have difficulty though, he's probably have a panic attack. He suffers from anxiety, etc. half of his hair is already white due toalways being scared (no joke).
I believe my animals would of been taken care of, but if not, I would make sure they're alright. I'd also make sure the car keys were taken, so we have a way to get to a family friends house to stay for a while.

I'd probably be going through my clothing, making sure I save the good ones.

Well in reality we'd be awake far sooner than that. Either the dog or fire alarm would have woken us up.

but if we somehow only had a 10 minute evac - toss on some clothes, gather the survival gear and the dog, and head out.

I'd probably spend the ten minutes pondering how a wildfire happened in a country that has destroyed about 95% of its natural forestation. We don't really have trees here any more. Not the way most people do.
