A church kicked me out for being gay.

I came out as a homosexual. I was the drummer of the church band and I went anytime I could. I love being around church. Well, this church, one I had been a member of for 3 years, kicked me out for being gay. They said the only way I was welcome back was if I got counciling. First off, it's not something you can cure. And God made me this way. There's nothing no one can do about it. Talk about narrow-minded.
IIN? Because I think it's downright wrong.

Your church is a church of man...not a church of god. Don't let them confuse the two for you.

The bible may say homosexuality is a sin, but so is lying, and cheating and we don't kick those people out. In that case, no one would be in church. God-fearing people understand that God loves everyone the same. And he calls upon us to do the same. We are suppose to love everyone regardless of lifestyles and frankly, a "real" Christian would not kick you out of a place of worship. Just because your gay doesn't mean you don't love God.

I concur. I like to think of church as my spiritual HMO! Do we kick people out of the hospital for being sick?

It's normal, and I can relate to your situation, being a gay person myself.

I used to be Christian, but I stopped believing in it simply because it was way too much trouble then it was worth. When I went to church people would look at me with this dirty look on their face, and they would act like I was a complete stranger to them even though I've known some of my former church members for a few years.

I'm happy being agnostic though, and even though I'm not sure if there is a god or not, I do know that there is some kind of a higher power out there.

If being a former Christian has taught me anything, it taught me that god (If he does exist) wants his followers to love everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, social status, and etc. There are deeply religious people out there, but some of them have some extremist views, and this is not what god intended for.

Not everyone out there is going to like you, and the biggest and most clear example is Jesus Christ. He was pure and wanted nothing but good for everyone, but look what happened to him. He was tortured very badly and died one of the worst, if not THE worst death possible. If the death of Christ doesn't prove that even the most good hearted people can be hated and threatened, I don't know what can.

Anyways, it's apparent that the church you we're attending isn't right for you. There are churches out there that welcome gays, and will gladly accept you. The numbers might be small, but they're out there. It takes alot of strength and confidence to admit something as deep as your own sexual preference to a group that isn't real enthusiastic about it, and I admire that.

Be yourself, be content, and don't live in the past. The only moment we have is the moment right now.

to be honest with you, I find this wrong as well, and this is coming from someone who loves and cherishes god.
I for one find that its wrong for the same gender to go out, but so what.
    that's just my opinion.
if your gay you should be able to tell others how it is.
    not how its not.
god loves all his children the same, NO MATTER WHAT.
in my opinion you should go back to that church and tell them how you feel about them kicking you out.
but that's just my thoughts, you don't have to listen to me.
I'm just another person who cares about how people feel.
don't be afraid to tell others how it really is.

yes but isn't there a scripture called "Judges"?

      Solomon judged.
      Moses judged.
      Jesus judged.

if people didnt make judgments there would be no motion/action.

  • I always wondered why some churches focus so passionately on homosexuality. Randomjelly, in one sentence, answered that question.
Funny thing is, it seems like the type of person who lashes out so feverishly against homosexuals often exposes some dark, twisted sexual issue of his own.
There are Christian faiths that will accept and embrace you if that's what you're looking for. It is heartbreaking to hear you were treated like this by the church you devoted so much to.

I wouldn't say it isn't normal, but it's certainly not OK either. Most of the churches I can think of would kick you out, but they're all intolerant religious fundamentalists. Times have changed and not all churches are so narrow-minded anymore, find one that can accept you as you are.

Well actually it says in the bible that if a member of the church is in a "relationship not corresponding with gods plan, which is straight marriage between a man and woman" they should be excommunicated from the church until they change their ways. Now this does not exactly target gays, it targets unlawful relations between a man and woman to, which is not marriage. If you don't believe me do some research. Just saying if you believe in god and the bible this is what your pretty much commanded I don't exactly agree with of of the bible, but I am a trustful servant of god, and want to follow his will.**most of this is found in the books written by Peter which pretty much states the laws for our recent church.

In my opinion that is not right. No one should be punished for their sexuality. Not just sexuality though, it their race and all. Church is suppose to be a place where you go and worship God. Their should not be a ''only come here if you are straight'' thing going on. I though a church was suppose to be ''all welcome no matter what, we are here to praise God'' thing going on.

well, I dont totally agree with them kicking you out, but the bible has a few stories of gays and to be quite frank it was frowned upon, I know churches, interpret the bible in their own way, some of it, I disagree with totally, but it is seen as undignified and a slap in the face when you get someone who is gay in a church. but if the church did keep u on, they would give u a counsellor within the church, and condemn you not to be gay every day and night, your better cutting your losses, and moving on. Go somewhere where u r supported. Sorry but I am not for gays, but I can say the church won't support you.

The bible was written by people and not God or Jesus himself. It is an outdated guideline on how to live your life correctly... I'm not against the bible but I don't see a problem with gayness. It was something that made you turn gay and not accepting yourself would be a great lie to uphold. A church kicking you out seems normal, sadly. It's just something a church would do.

Elijah it also says in the bible that "a marriage shall only be considered valid if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin she shall be excited" hmmm... I could only imagine if this was carried out in this day and age.

I personally beleive in Buddhism n find it a very interesting theory/religion. You can ask any gay man that is accepting of himself that he was born that way n can not change. I'm glad you did come out because once a person comes out they usually live much happier no longer fighting and denying themselves.

I personally had an extremely Cristian friend who was open to homosexuality. Some churches are open to it and others are not. Before Christianity and the dark ages, believe it or not, homosexuality was openly practiced and it was considered normal.

The church contains a bunch of hypocrites and I'm not surprised they kicked you out. They're not as all accepting as jesus taught them to be, are they?

I am very very surprised by this!!! Most Christian churches would welcome you not kick you out. Was it a catholic church?? They are the ones who hate gay people. But I am bisexual and very Christian but I never have a problem. The only reason the bible says something bad about gay people is because at that time followers were few and they were being encouraged to procreate. (have kids)... for the same reason it also says it is illegal to use birth control or to pull out during sex. I am very upset that your church did that but try to find one that will be supportive. Most will but try an episcopalian church to be on the safe side (most even have gay/lesbian ministers!) good luck and again I'm so sorry that that happened to you.
