"trousers" sounds like a dirty word. iin?

Whenever someone says 'trousers' I get a mental image of an old, fat pedophile pulling his pants down and exposing himself.

It may be because in the US we don't generally say trousers unless it's a weird situation. Like a fat old man exposing himself.

Does anyone else feel a dirty feeling about the word 'trousers'?

I had a half English co-worker who used the word all the time. I got use to hearing it. It makes me think Englishmen, not anything else.

Aww, don't ruin "trousers" for me. I love the word. Although there is a slightly dirty connotation. The Norwegian word for underwear is trosor. It came to mean outerwear only when it passed into English.

No, don't ruin the word for me! When I think of "trousers", I think of quiet english villages and old people. Basically, they remind me of the show "Last of the Summer Wine".

I disagree. However pants is actually what Americans call underwear. You dirty Americans wearing your pants on the outside.

  • Lol I understand you. I also think of a quirky man when I here the word. Quirky men named Craig or Randall say they wear trousers...in the US. :))

Hehehehe. I actually found this funny. But no, I don't think trousers is a dirty word. It might be normal, though. I find some words to be very disturbing. But they're not even English, so you're all safe.
