is it normal that i'm only happy when i stand out?

I am extremely gothic. Not in a skanky, greasy, emo way, but elegantly gothic. I get a lot of compliments from strangers when I am out. And I know I suit my style, my family agree. Is it normal that I am unhappy if I am not gothic?

  • i like to see people stand out and want to be noticed, to put effort into their costume and such, good for you (as long as they dont get angry if people like looking)

Yes, it's normal. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable with yourself and whatever makes you happy.

Anyone would be unhappy about losing an integral part of their identity. It just sucks that your happiness is contingent on whether or not you stand out. Sounds like what I see when I watch those teen "OMG STAND OUT AND B SPESHUL" flicks but whatever floats your goat.

While I love the whole goth thing, I'm always kind of sad that it's become about being different or getting attention. There used to be almost a philosophy behind it and it's been appropriated by the God of all things surface.

I don't do it for attention, I do it because it makes me happy. Its not just the clothes.. Its the music, the attitude (not depressing, emo stuff though), the creativity.. Everything. I know my goth history, dont worry. :L

At the expense of sounding like a creep, you sound like a really awesome person.
