"flippin' the bird" is trashy

I don't get offended when people show me their middle finger, but whenever I see them do it...it make me think of them as being trashy. Is it normal for me to feel this way? I curse and what not, but when it comes to the middle finger..that just seems to cut it for me lol. Anyone else feel this way?

    I do too, actually. It just looks daft, but so does the fig, jerking your arm, fist shaking and exaggerated waves hello.
    Words are sufficient, thanks. I don't need physical signs.

    well, it's quite rude to swear at anyone or flip the bird if they didn't do anything to deserve it.

    Depends on how you were raised.
    Who taught you to think it was trashy, or how did you arrive at that conclusion about such a common gesture?

      I just don't think its a very civilized thing to do, or just seems rude to do regardless if someone "deserved" it or not
