Let's say there's mass chaos across your country due to an economic collapse. You have to leave town on foot right NOW! You cannot cross any border into another country, you will have to ride this out.

This is what you have: a backpack equipped with all the standard items for basic survival. Knife, fire starter, a few days worth of rations, some bottled water and some purification tablets, compass, map, a small book of basic survival techniques, emergency blanket, small first aid kit, basic hygiene items, hatchet, rope and so on. You can put on whatever clothing you wish before you leave, but remember you have to either wear it or carry it! It has to be clothing that you (or your household) currently own!

If you currently own a gun and ammo, you are free to bring it along. If not, then too bad!

You can pick one more thing to bring with you.

Requirements:

-You have to be able to carry it along with you

-It has to be something that is currently sold on Amazon dot com. It can be a set of items provided it's currently sold as a set on amazon, but you can't buy multiple items to make up your own set.

The date this happens is August 15th. Plan accordingly!

    I have some Rocky S2V Special Ops Boots and some nice thick wool socks I can wear so that's my feet taken care of. (An old soldier once said to me "If you look after your feet, they'll look after you")

    I also have a pair of lightweight cargo pants, I can freely move and run in and store things in that I find or could be useful. (Tinder, plastic bags, etc etc)

    Top wise, I have an arrange of free moving and light weight t-shirts, or shirts, I can wear. (Being Australia it never really gets cold)

    We don't have guns here, so guns and ammo, isn't really an issue.

    And the one thing I'd buy, off Amazon, would be the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter which is small, compact and allows you to drink from any water source immediately, without getting sick.

    No waiting for water to boil, no waiting for purification tabs to work, just use your t-shirt as a siv and then drop the straw in and drink straight away, or drop the straw straight into a stream, river creek, pool and drink straight away :)

      I would still rather wait for the water to boil plus i would use burnt wood and sand to help clean the water then boil it.

    Since it is around 1°C here in England - snow impending - I'd have to dress warm. I'd wear the following, all of which I own: boxer briefs, thermal socks, shorts, thick sweatpants, Craghoppers cargo trousers, t-shirt, thermal zip-up base-layer top, fleece lined hoodie, Dickies winter coat, walking boots, beanie hat, fleece balaclava and water-resistant, wind-proof winter gloves.

    I have no guns or ammo...

    My additional item from Amazon: No clue. That LifeStraw water filter does seem like a good idea, I can't think of anything better on the spot.

    I would stay in my house and set traps. Whatever is unlucky enough to try to get in will fall into my trap and die. I will skin them and eat them after cooking whatever it is over a fire I will make in my backyard. Why is staying home not an option?

    I'll be glad to play. i will bring my best knives along with me on the trip and will bring a flint to start a fire & some easy to make food just ad water & let all my animals go & will bring my tobacco so i can enjoy smoking and include my pack to come along with me.

    Some sort of self-powered tool like a hand crank radio/flashlight?

    Maybe a companion?

    I really don't know. Much of what I've considered are materialistic or superficial things that probably wouldn't serve much purpose in the event of an apocalypse.

    I'd grab the 410 shotgun and go people hunting. And forget that shit in the backpack I need room for bits of peoples. I think clothes would weigh me down, so naked people skinning is where it's at.

    Although this could be a valuable tool, it should never be pointed at another person, except when your life is in an immediate clear and present danger, and you are acting in self-defense. There are many other, more imaginative ways to kill people, if need be, even if they have a gun and you don't.
    It could be used to hunt feral domesticated animals such as, cattle, horses, dogs, cats, pigs, etc. for food and other raw materials (skins, bones, teeth, etc.).
    It should not be used in an indiscriminate slaughter of naturally occurring wildlife. Sustainable hunting only.

          Im not so sure if i would, Go leaving by my self tho their are a lot of color hatters here i tell you living around here where i live and i don't look pure white i've got that dark completion of native indian i might get my ass beat for no reason.

    I have a bicycle and will soon have a trailer. I'm not sure why I would leave this behind. And if I had to leave the city I would likely be headed to my friend's farm. I'd ask what she needed and grab that.

        So I do. I read your post three times wondering why you hadn't mentioned a map and I must have missed it each time.

        I guess for me, living in one of the most overpopulated countries of the world, the problem isn't traditional survival skills (we don't have a wilderness to speak of) but how to stay competitive against the other 60 million souls running around this small island. The best way I can see is to get to a part that is difficult to get to so perhaps I'd take materials to build a raft and head for the Hebrides.

    I would get a fire proof blanket and put it over my house. Problem solved and I defeated you op! I will not abandon my home thanks to stupid fire. All it will be is fire. So No I will sit and watch as the city burned. I will scavage off anything left when people escape.
