26, never had a job

I am 26 years old, my husbands in the airforce and we have two kids, I've pretty much always been a stay at home mom, because I enjoy taking care of my kids, and it is kind-of embarrassing to say I don't have any experience doing anything, I only have my high-school diploma and now I really want a job, I've filled out at least 15 different applications on-line for entry level type jobs, but have not got a call back about anything and I'm kind-of desperate because extra income would really help and I was wondering if maybe anybody has any ideas on what I should do?

3 years too late but I have to say I got you beat. Im 27 year old male and have never been employed. I was mostly working gig jobs since I liked how they would pay you upfront everyday and never got taxed. Ive been living off my fathers life insurance money after he passed away in Jan of 2010. It was decided amongst me and my sister and we both got 1 million each. Ive basically been making money off the money I have. Buying cars, computers and lately smartphones for dirt cheap, fixing them and reselling for a profit. I have no children and am still single keep that in mind. I am also bi-polar and have a bad criminal background. Temp selects couldnt even help me. I'm living in an RV as of now but im still happy. Me and my mates are planning on driving down to california this month in it. Also the fact these days, its hard to find work. Especially a person my age with no experience.

From my experience everyone who got an entry level job last year (UK) knew someone. Don't bother with online applications, ask yours and your husband's contacts for help...

If you guys live on or near base you need to apply at the b.x. Dependents get first priority over civilians because they take care of their own. Take any entry level job.. get your training, and move up from there.. Dont give up! Good luck to you.

Its best to turn in a application in person, then you can talk to a manager and tell them how much you want the job. Wait a couple days then call and ask for a manager and ask if they had time to look at the application and tell them again how much you want the job. If they don't flat out say no then wait a couple days and call again. Iv done that everytime I applied and my bosses told me I was hired because I seemed to want it more than other people applying. And it helps them remember you. It'll be harder because youv never had a job but just be honest and tell them youv been a stay at home mom.

It's pretty common, I have several friends up to 30-years old that've never had a "real" job. However I live in Sweden and I assume you're from the US so I guess my advice isn't worth much here.

Anyway, e-mailing for filling our applications on-line is a sure-fire way to NOT getting a job. You have to "sell" yourself a little, prepare a list of things you've accomplished and a little general background info on yourself aswell as your ambitions and goals. Then you either call the company you're applying to or better yet try to visit the office (or whatever) and personally hand over your resumé.

    Good luck!

The online job world doesn't seem to work too well. People are really bad at getting back to you. Try going to the actual place you want to work to inquire about a job, or give them a call. This has worked much better for me.
