21 and don't drink?

Is it abnormal for a 21 year old to not drink? Everyone I work with loves to go out to bars/clubs and get drunk. They invite me all the time but I always say no because I don't drink and don't want to be around a bunch of drunks when I am the only sober one. Is anyone else like this? Seems like I am the only person I know of that doesn't drink...

I'm 26 and know a few people that don't drink. All I have to say is: GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!! BE PROUD.
I barely drink anymore and can't stand to be around drunken fools either. Mind you, I started drinking really young. So I am over the whole party scene honestly. You are living a healthier life, my friend. Keep it up!!

i am straightedge as well..it can be hard to hang out with drinkers, if you feel that you are tired of being left out, recommend going to other places where alcohol isn't around to have a good time. You could try going to dinner, a rollerskating rink, movies, pool etc.

If you dont consider them friends and are just feeling left out, remember why you don't drink and feel more confident in your decision not to do so.

There's nothing wrong with not drinking at any age. Doesn't matter that you're twenty-one, really. Spend your time as you see fit.

Why would you want to poison yourself for experiences you won't remember well and then suffer hangovers for doing it? I mean I might be Nutshelling a bit, but you have to admit it's true.

I'd also add that Xerxe's comment shows a lack of maturity. The fact that others are doing it is NO reason for the OP to do it. If anything, OP shows considerable maturity for sticking to his/her guns and making a conscious choice to be true to him/herself. OP, if you can go against the crowd and make the choice that you know is wiser, you have a strength of character that should stand you in good stead throughout your life.

I'm quite a bit older than you, OP, and I don't drink, either - not even when I was 18 (I'm Australian). Like you, I hate being around a bunch of drunks. However, the irresponsible drinking of others has still ruined my life: thanks to drunk drivers I can no longer work, and because of that, my car was repossessed and we lost our house. I often rely on a wheelchair. There is simply nothing clever about drinking to get drunk. While I see nothing wrong with responsible drinking, chances are your friends aren't that mature, yet (from what you said), and so for your own safety, it's probably wiser to continue doing what you've been doing, and politely decline drinking invitations. Perhaps consider asking friends out for other things that don't involve getting pissed? That way they won't feel that you're rejecting them personally. But I say you're definitely normal (and mature!) and your choices have been wise.

I live in Australia so legal drinking age is 18, I've always hated drinking thanks to my mum! But when i hit between 13 -15 I went really rebellious and got drunk all the time to be cool and help my self esteem and did lots of things I really regret , then I moved onto heroin at 16 and ended up in a bad way. I'm 25 now single mum of 2 wonderful kids in my own house and a law abiding citizen I hate smoking drinking and drugs and while everyone my age goes out drinking , taking party drugs and making bad choices, at times I feel a bit lonely and hard to neet my mr right as pubs clubs and partys etc are a no go even when I do get the odd time out from my babies but I wake up feeling healthy and don't do silly and
Dangerous things , I've seen it from both sides and you are not missing out don't feel pushed to do anything. Find activitys and outings that don't include booze and if you do go out have a good timeknowing your safer and have better judgement as to what people out there are really about! Alcohol kills more people every year than drugs combined , alot more . Be proud of your smart
    Choices

I drink socially, but I never end up drunk. I always drive my friends home. I love it because they buy the DD dinner and I have lots of pictures to blackmail them with ]:D

Not every consumer of alcohol is loud & obnoxious. U can enjoy ur time w/o liquer
pumpin in ur veins. People who don't understand this can go live in their narrow little perspective of life. Live urs with ppl who accept ur choices.

Peer pressure is nothing you need to worry about. Do your own thing and if people don't approve, screw them. I don't plan on drinking in 3 years when I turn 21 and I don't think I ever will.

I do have a drink occasionally, but it's not something I have to do to have fun. Some people just get drunk for the sake of it.

I started drinkin at about 22. I didn't like goin out much with people like that b/c it isn't fun being the only sober one. I started with crown and coke & now I drink anything. Not all the time, but I do down a few when I have some friends over. You'd be surprised. Just chill out at home and drink about 5 beers while playin call of duty. You can drink without gettin drunk. And you'll be surprised at how good you feel when you're buzzin. Then you'll go out out all the time with friends.
