Why in sports do people say people are old for sports at 30?

Doesn't matter what sport. Could be soccer, football, wrestling etc. When someone is 30 you'll hear people say wow he's old to be in sports.

I'm 30. I still rock climb, I'm capable of kayaking, lifting weights, playing tennis at a quick speed etc. I don't feel any different than 25..should I? I'm really not understanding that 30 is old for playing sports. At 30 should I be weak?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

The body doesn't rebound from injury as well as you age. Some people will, of course, But in general, the healing process takes more out of you. Especially if you have multiple. Scar tissue will build up.

I think the wear and tear that being a professional athlete puts on a person’s body causes many of them to decline a little faster in their 30’s. If you look at the four big American sports (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL) the average ages are all mid to late 20’s. 30 isn’t old, but in the sports world you’re probably just about starting to head down the hill instead of up for the first time.

Peak male performance is genenerally in the mid to late twenties. You aren't a professional or even a mediocre athlete if you don't feel a fall off after 30

I was once told it's because physical health problems usually start when the 30's hit and athletes tend to get injuries in that age period. If you're body is still healthy, you've got nothing to worry about.
