Why do people like pitbulls

they do so much harm and are literally bred to kill. i don’t get the hype around em. even ones raised well can snap and seriously injure or kill somebody

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

The pitbull lobby actively spreads misinformation about them, downplays just how dangerous they can be (even if raised right, you are still playing Russian Roulette with a fighting breed that is responsible for the most fatalities out of any dog breed), and "it's not the breed, it's the owner" gets thrown around a lot, although it can sometimes be both. However, there have been lovingly and carefully raised pitbulls that have snapped and seriously injured or killed people and animals.

A lot of people are also pretty ignorant about breeding/genetics and the effect it has on an animal's behavior. Retrievers naturally want to retrieve, herding breeds naturally want to herd, and unfortunately, pitbulls tend to have a predisposition to fight and kill. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, but is it really worth the risk when there are other dogs that are much lower risk to own?

Some people also like the fact that they have a reputation for being dangerous and like to look tough, and some want to save a "misunderstood" dog.

I don't hate them and in fact feel sorry for them since their breeding puts them at a disadvantage and they really have no place in modern society (and they are also euthanized at a very high rate), but I don't trust them and will never own one. I just think it is playing with fire, especially when people bring them around children, the elderly/disabled, other pets, etc.

Yeah it's when people start keeping multiple pets in small spaces that you have to say stop. You're not starting a zoo.

Most of the time, if they actually have competent owners that know how to properly train them, there won't be any issues.

When I was a mailman one of the neighbours would let his pitbull walk unsupervised. Chillest dog I've ever met. The entire block knew the dog and I would always give him a treat when I came across him. It's also a matter of raising the dog I guess.

Was it actually a pitbull? Or a different breed that visually resembles pitbulls?

Because some of them are really nice fogs. The problem is you cannot know which are gonna snap. They really should breed them out if existence but since its mostly backyard breeders that will not likely happen even if theyre outlawed.

if you got a choice of two victims to assault or rob or burgle one alone and the other with a big ole pit bull which one you gonna go for?

someone fucks with you in the hood you can have a gun but (good) guns are expensive and usually illegal in cities and pullin a gun on someone is an aggressive act that might invite later retaliation

where if you got a pit bull youre just walkin a dog who instinctively wants to defend its owner

Don't forget to train your dog to not eat stuff off the sidewalk.

there's a lot of misinformation on apbt (american pitbull terrier), while being predispositioned to dog/animal aggression they should not be human aggressive as that is out of standard. apbt are more for experienced dog owners though which is why a lot of attacks happen towards humans because people who are inexperienced in responsibily training and handling a dog like an apbt go out and get one and mess up the dogs training and it becomes a mess of behavioural issues.

another reason is apbt are really popular so there's a lot of poorly bred ones from puppy mills/backyard breeders that are born with bad temperments from dogs that should have never been bred in the first place. irresponsible breeders only care for money and will breed a dog even if it shows bad temperment like aggression towards humans which has a chance of passing onto the pups.

it's basically half bc dumb people go out and get them and can't be bothered to learn about the breed and don't train it properly and half poorly bred dogs with bad genetics and temperament/health issues.

apbt are working dogs and require a lot of stimulation and exercise, they are generally a high strung breed. when a dog is not trained or exercised properly it will cause destruction and develop behavior issues, however dogs also have naturally built in temperments depending on the breed.

don't get a border collie if you don't want a dog with a natural herding instinct and prone to chasing small animals/children, don't get a siberian husky if you don't want a dog with high prey drive and a tendency to kill small animals like cats, don't get a beagle if you don't want a noisy dog, don't get an apbt if you don't want to deal with dog/animal aggression. it's so important to research a breed beforehand to know what you're getting into.

But has that ever happened with a Pomeranian?

        • a pitbull can fucking kill you. these small dogs can't do nearly as much damage as pitbulls regularly do

But I suppose other large dogs are equally capable of violence, if untrained. There's various breeds of hunting dogs... Even sheepdogs can harm the sheep if not well trained.

Some people are shady and enjoy dangerous creatures and the thrill of living on the edge. Think of extreme sports and race cars and criminals and you have your answer.

Well this is the main reason i hate dog lovers. When a pitbull or dangerous dog comes and tries to attack a child they will say my dog will never do this on purpose or he didn't meant to do it. I would say any dog that shows even the slightest aggressiveness should be killed on the spot.

I have had pitbulls and theyre really loyal but adhd. They arent gonna just bite you if you raised havent been beating them and training them to kill. The drawbacks are they will attack other male dogs especially if theyre young male dogs and not fixed.

With that said I cant stand when people let their pitbulls roam freely in neighborhoods.

Misinformation about them for a long time (even still) also, they’re just ‘cute’ to a lot of people
