Why do people date the opposite gender if they've

Been sexually abused? I domt get it! If I was sexually abused its natural reaction to get PTSD with someone of that gender. Also, I domt.get why when someone has "mommy issues", eg abandonment they still get into a relationship with a women if their a guy or alternatively if they're a female why date guys if you're abandoned by the mother, ud think the person would date a women to fill that void. It's like how someone with daddy issues dates older men then why isn't this always the case? Itd make more sense if a female was abandoned by her mum then later dates an older women not guys because hows a guy going to fill.the void of mommy issues when she grew up with a dad.

Sexual abuse has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

Lmfao what. You're born straight or gay or bi not made that way by sexual abuse your 'argument' is baseless. People are gay/straight/bi with or without sexual abuse what are you smoking

        • What are you smoking ? Sexual abuse in a LOT of cases repels the individual from the sex who abused them. I know plenty people who wont touch the opposite sex with a barge pole due to being sexually abused and in fact were born straight. I also know some people who are gay who been sexually abused by the same gender and gone for the opposite gender due to PTSD from being simply touched by same gender. It works both ways. Get educated moron !

You have to tell OP exactly what they want to hear because their delusional mind can't handle fact over fiction

Because sexuality is not a choice. Also pretty sure some people who are abused become extremely promiscuous as result. So the polar opposite of what you think.

    • Why when its PTSD triggering if one is sexually abused?

Because people are much more complex than that one would have to assume.

Being abused by someone of the opposite gender cannot remove your physical attraction to them. So, unless you're gay/bi/whatever your options are rather limited. People respond to trauma in their own way, just because one person can never have another relationship again doesn't mean another will feel the same way.

An ex of mine was abused. Despite being friends for years before we became a thing, comfort/confidence for physical things took awhile. We worked through it just fine, tho. Give her all the space she needs, but also be there for whatever comfort she may need. And allow her to make all the moves.

What? It doesn't make them straight either. The point is it doesn't change your sexual orientation. So, a straight woman whose been abused by a man isn't going to suddenly start dating women, as your title suggests they should.

Sexual orientation doesn't change. You're born with it.

Sure it happens but I'd wager its far less common.

Plus there is the issue of people calling themselves straight when they're not.

It sounds like you'd like people to react to childhood events in a simple, logical, "if this happened, then this always happens" way.

But that's just not how people work.

If someone is bullied as a child, they may cope with that by becoming submissive and constantly trying to be invisible as an adult. Or they might be filled with an inner rage they don't even acknowledge but which surfaces now and then in the form of extreme violence. Or they might decide they're worthless and engage in self-destructive habits. Or they might turn into controlling assholes who bully those less powerful than them as an adult. Or they might come to terms with how they were treated as a child and devote their lives to trying to help kids going through what they did.

People are complicated. A lot of us never really figure out exactly why we do the things we do, and many people spend their whole lives lying to themselves about their true motivations. In the context of sexuality, most of us really have no idea why we find some people, traits and activities arousing and others disgusting.

Few of us respond to other people and events in a completely random, chaotic way, so there's almost always some sort of logical cause and effect at work. It's pretty clear that sometimes our genes play a big role in that. But people don't spend years in therapy trying to identify and sort out the effects of childhood trauma just because they're the victim of an evil plot by the therapy industry to rip them off.

Humanity wouldn't have survived if the vast majority of people weren't hetero...Despite whatever trauma may have been inflicted by the oppote sex.

    • Still, not every one is abused so that's irrelevant what you just stated. It makes no sense to still wanna fuck soemone of the same gender whom one was sexually abused by. I know if I were sexually abused by a man I'd get ptsd and triggered as soon as one were to touch me, itd be a natural stress response plus I know a shit ton women whom feel the same as me and in fact been abused sadly..

Tbf, what you're saying makes perfect sense. Ironically nature goes the opposite of that in a lot of cases. I know that people who were diddled as kids as way more likely to grow up to diddle kids.

I'm just theorizing here, but I imagine that it's heavily associated with the sexual area of the brain after something like that happens.

I think sexual orientation is something you're just born with and does not change. And at some point in life most people want to find a romantic partner and have sex, its natural. People who experience something traumatic may get a little over it after a while (maybe not completely but more or less) and they may not see "the abuser" in the new person they met.

    • Na because sexuality is fluid so it only makes sense to steer clear from the very sex that triggers you fro the bad event that took place. I'd also think even if a gay man were sexually abused as a kid he prolly would swing the other way.
Sex is natural to have kids yes not to just have sex especially if they very person is same sex that abused one as a kid.
Also just because someone wants romance doesn't mean they want sex, the 2 are different. Most men equate love with sex so it makes 0 sense to want to be with a man as well due to this fact alone.
