Why are people afraid of trans people in the bathroom?

I keep seeing articles about transphobia and people getting banned because they used the "wrong" bathroom. I think this is sooooo dumb and PEOPLE NEED TO GET OVER THEMSELVES!
Why are people so afraid of a trans woman in a womans bathroom? Do they think trans people are using the concept of trans to solely creep and pray on women in public places???? Men keep saying they dont want this "fake" woMAN near their daughter in the bathroom, or saying that they would feel awkward about having the wrong genitalia in a bathroom, but how would those same men feel about peeing next to someone in a bright pink dress? wouldnt that make them uncomfortable too???

people are so quick to speak on behalf of others with out considering how that person would feel next to the trans person. Ultimately, it is how the trans person feels. Not you, not me, only that person. I use the womans bathroom because I am a woman. If they feel and identify as a woman, let them USE THE DAMN WOMANS BATHROOM!

Trans man should use mens room 7
Trans woman should use mens room 3
I dont care at all 29
Trans woman should use womans room 4
Trans man should use womans room 1
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

If a fake man wants to change her tampon while I'm taking a piss, I don't give a fuck.

    • Thats the thing. How can people tell? Don’t say “by checking” because that is exactly what people claim to be afraid of.

As a trans AFAB guy myself I feel like the ones who should be worried about bathroom safety are us trans folk because of this stigma, I personally saw a woman clutching a can of pepper spray before walking into the bathroom. All anyone wants to do in the bathroom is get in, do their business, wash their hands(hopefully) and get out. No one, cis or trans, should have to worry about personal safety in the bathroom. it's a bathroom for crying out loud! Let people go where they're comfortable, mind your own business and we'll all be fine.

Well, as a woman who has suffered from dangerous men, I wouldn’t feel safe with a man using a woman’s restroom. Trans people being allowed to use the resturaunt opposite of their gender will just allow for more danger to fall upon people.

    • How? What dangers will Trans people bring into the bathroom?

      Comment Hidden ( show )
        -
      • Maybe it's not the trans people who'll bring the danger.

Any rapist who claims to be the opposite gender would be able to go into whatever restroom.

        • Your point is valid but, I have never heard of a rapist sneaking into the womans bathroom on the news. Only (ignorant) people banning trans people on the news.

Errr happens all the time. We're do you think all those hidden camera porn vids come from of women on the toilet or changing. Did women film other women or some sick perv?

"Ultimately, it's how the trans person feels."

That's extremely selfish. It totally disregards the feelings of literally every single other person.

I get that your heart is on the right place but honestly it is just irritating towards people who disagree with you. Most trans people like most people in general tend to be more moderate and are not pushing opinions in this way.

Ive heard many people claim how the LGBT community is annoying and want this or that, and can't help but feel disappointed that most of these activist voices aren't even from gay or trans people.

Just something to be aware of.

Like, as unfair as it is, the people you piss off by pushing your opinion before really trying to listen to theirs aren't going to necessarily express their annoyance towards you, but some will blame it on LGBT people

I voted "I don't care" but to be honest I would feel a little unsettled if a Trans man came in the bathroom beside me at the urinal. My mind would be thinking that person was female.....

You keep seeing "articles" but have you ever actually witnessed this first-hand occurring? Congrats, you fell for the sensationalism.

In reality it seems to me more like Trans people are afraid to use the bathroom. Just take a dump before you leave, kid. No need to shit yourself. :)

PS. some places do have a "trans bathroom", it's called the handicapped toilet.

    • I know that this is what the media wants. The most recent article was from CNN which should already be sending red flags, but something in me just gave in. I know that most media sources, even the ones clamming to be true neutral, are still out to spin a story.

To answer your question, no I have not.

Make a third restroom with a question mark on the door.

i mean, the genuine answer is because of the centuries of history of assault on women by men. that's WHY. but as for an opinion, I'm on the edge. I want to respect gender identities but when it comes down to it, I think separating by bio sex is necessary. we should just add a gender neutral bathroom (without replacing already existing ones) so that people don't have to feel forced into one gender if they want. also for enbies

Hmmm. If I was in the female rest room and a trans man (whom I would assume would at least somehow resemble a female) he/she would go into a stall and I probably wouldn’t even notice as I don’t tend to take a great deal of notice of other people in public rest rooms! It would be weirder for a trans man dressed like a female to go to the male rest room. I agree that the media sensationalises isolated incidents to create controversy. And if some rapist wants to prey on people in rest rooms, well anyone of any gender can actually go into any rest room if they really want to rape someone. I know a couple of trans men who look male and use the male rest rooms even though they have female parts down there and they just go into a stall and nobody knows any different.

That's nice and all but it appears you are making no effort to fully and truly empathize with the many people who feel differently than you.

There is logical coherence in what you say, but nothing about what you write here does anything to help gain understanding. I hope you can see that.

Its just something people who already agree with you will like and nobody else will listen to.

I disagree. I truly believe that through empathy and compassion people can come to a more mutual understanding and in some cases become more closely aligned in their views.

Its not as though people maintain a constant stance throughout life and many move in many directions.

And understand you were venting and am not telling you not to do that. I was just pointing out that in my experience this has a negative effect on trans people.

If you understand what I'm saying there are many who believe trans people are hyper focused with changing the world and making other people accept them, when in reality most are apolitical or of any party. I have met many trans people and never anybody who shows anything close to this degree of passion regarding bathrooms.

They just wait for a private stall, which in some cases are abundant, or use the one for the gender which they appear to be most at the time.

Also in some cases there are gender neutral bathrooms or some people who don't wanna use gross public toilets anyways.

There are greater issues these people face, and this one seems only to bring negativity towards trans people.

And the vast majority of the noise I see coming from non-trans people and I don't think that its fair.

I'm not saying don't express your feelings I'm just pointing out it does not go without consequence towards the very people you are trying to show support for

Its just something to take into consideration when speaking in regards to a group, especially one you are not even a part of. Because you whether you like it or not, are going to be perceived as a reflection of this group's general attitude.

There unfortunately is no voice for the many moderate people because they are busy living their lives and not publicly sharing how they feel nuanced or apathetic on different issues.

I feel like it is unfair for transgender ppl to get banned from a bathroom like if u suppose to be a girl/women but was born with a boy/men body or the other way around....they making all the statements and they are not caring what they have to go through and ppl are judgin them but don't be thinkin the way around transwomen should be able to use a women bathroom by the way mostly transwomen get bottom surgery so they can be happy with their body and feel like a confident women same as a boy/men

This post reminds me of Targets transgender bathroom policy (I work there). When they announced it we had idiots coming into our store, making large purchases, then immediately going to customer service to return them in some sort of protest. They thought they were doing a good deed that mattered, but all they were doing was inconveniencing the workers. Personally I don't care if a chick with a dick is shitting in a stall next to me. If I did care, I'd be calling corporate to complain instead of harassing the employees over it.
