There are totally non corrupt politicians. I'd say that's most local politicians. Just doing a basic enough job to be relected. There are animals that acomplish that job fantastically.
I'm real enough to myself to think I'm just good enough of a leader to lead maybe 10 people. Any more than that and I'd probably fail them.
The only two things you need to know about American politics are
1. Nobody is in politics for good of the general public, they're only in politics to enrich themselves through (most often) illegal or immoral means
2. Only Republicans ever face consequences for their corruption. When the left is caught doing something corrupt, it's justified, excused, or completely buried
True. But just because the otherside doesnt get caught doesnt mean we shouldnt prosecute. This isnt 2nd grade.
What trump did seems to me like a misdemeanor at best. Should of paid using his own money. But he didnt and other people tried to hide it which they knew was illegal.
I thought he did use his personal account to reimburse his lawyer, but tried to cover it as a business expense.
My question is, what is the difference between extortion and hush payments?
When a person sexual fling, door man, business partner, personal lawyer, want money from you to keep their mouth shut about something not necessarily illegal but embarrassing isn't that extortion?
No it's not illegal. The whole thing is just about a misdemeanor grade crime that's been overblown to 34 felonies by counting every action as a seperate felony.
Trump had lawyers pay stormy daniels to shut up about the affair (at least until the election was over) the lawyers paid. The illegal action was paying those lawers back through a 3rd party company for "legal fees" which to me seem to be completely legal fees. New york is just particularly ornery about keeping your books open.
The double standard is disgusting enough that I honestly don't know if I agree with you. If we're going to let corruption slide, I feel like it would be less damaging to let both sides get away with it equally rather than granting unlimited favoritism toward only a single party
